Out of sync
***
Bette is sitting in her darkened office when the door opened and Candace pops her head back in. She spots Bette on the couch and walks over saying she forgot something. Bette says yes you did and picks up Candace’s tool satchel but that is not what Candace is referring to.
Candace: I forgot that I won’t be able to sleep tonight if I don’t tell you that all I’ve wanted to do all day long is kiss you.
Candace looks at Bette longingly as she moves closer then she whispers.
Candace: Please tell me if you don’t want me to.
Bette doesn’t say a word. Candace takes that as consent to proceed. She grabs Bette’s neck and brings their lips together in a hungry kiss. There is nothing hesitant or gentle about it. Bette kisses her back with the same abandon. Bette pulls out of the kiss but she doesn’t release the embrace right away. She appears to be conflicted and indecisive. Candace gives her another out before things go too far.
Candace: I should go shouldn’t I?
Bette: Yeah you should
Bette sobs when Candace leaves.
***
The next morning Candace stops by Bette’s office to tell her that she’s there working. Bette thanks her. She sighs loudly then tries to get her mind back on work. Bette turns her back to the door and starts looking through a folder when she feels arms snaking around her waist. She immediately assumes its Candace coming back for a second round but this time she’s trying to resist.
Bette: I’m sorry, I can’t.
Tina: Can’t what babe?
Had Bette’s mind not been focused on the other woman she would have recognized her partner’s touch, her scent, her feel or at the very least notice that the complexion of the arms that held her didn’t resemble Candace’s mocha skinned tone that matched her own. However she was far too distracted and lost in her own fantasy world to realize her partner was there until Tina’s voice startled her back to reality. Bette tried to cover up her indiscretion and kissed Tina softly but hesitantly; guilt written all over her face. Tina doesn’t seem to notice. She’s just glad to be home.
Bette: Hey … I’m … I was just thinking that I’m not sure that I can get the show ready in three weeks.
Tina: You can do it
Bette smiles at her and draws Tina into another kiss with a little more passion this time. They then pull back as if they’re afraid to be caught or maybe it was indicative of the estrangement that was brewing under the surface. Once again they were out of sync. Tina just wanted to come home and cuddle with her partner and Bette had her mind on a certain female carpenter that she’d find herself bumping into quite often for the next three weeks.
Tina: That party was so crazy. God it just made me want to come home and curl up in bed with you.
***
Now lying in bed with her estranged wife, Bette would give anything to hear Tina say those words to her again. What the fuck had she done? Was it a lapse in judgment; a moment of weakness; a desire for something different … whatever it was had cost her dearly. She’d destroyed everything that meant anything to Tina and it seemed nothing she did now could ever make up for it.

BAT I’m with you so far…..please have a better version than what I saw……
Dee22 – if you haven’t read this story before you’re in for a ride. It will be very different from what we saw on the show. That’s a promise. Stay with me.
So glad you are going to change it. Thanks, enjoyed it
Thank you. Changes are coming soon.
Still here and looking forward to your ‘spin’ on the story :)
Thanks as always for the post.
SassyGran thanks for sticking with the story. There will be a few surprises on the way.
This story makes me sad, i will read it but it is so hard. As a true Tibetter i think it is better that they break up and try to find them selves. Bette made one big mistake and she paid dearly for that.
But Tina is not the innocent poor woman, she is one evil bitch who destroyed Bette with her behaviour.
Ugh, i hate season three! !! But i will stick around.
Bibi28 – I know it’s hard. I won’t be reliving S3 for too much longer. The story will take a turn in a few chapters. Thanks for sticking with me.
Really hated Tina in S3 and how she threatened Bette and I know that I also do not like her at the beginning of your story. Granted Bette cheated but she paid for it and let Tina walk all over her and humiliate her in public. Tina for her part, in my opinion, didn’t take any responsibility for the failure of their relationship and as it wasn’t bad enough that she dated Helena Peabody now she is working for her and helps her to invade herself with their friends. At least Bette is aware of the fact that she should not let Tina treat her like she does any longer and that she has to put herself together without Tina’s help. So looking forward to your next post, and thank you so much for posting this exceptional story.
as1219. I’m so glad to see you reading and commenting on this story. You were an integral part of it when I originally posted. I totally agree about how Tina treated Bette. Bette’s affair was a betrayal but Tina’s revenge was evil. She did everything in her power to break Bette and almost succeeded. As you know I can’t abide a broken Bette. She’s going to come back better than ever. :-)
BETTE should have been the happiest woman in WE-HO but HELENA/TINA made her look like a fool.TINA kept the screws in BETTE until that cybersex hic-cup and now alpha BETTE is loose.TINA needs to feel safe again but she goes overboard in this season.pps thanks
dunnthat – So true. I hated that Bette allowed herself to be so manipulated by Tina and Helena and later by Jodi. I think that’s why I always write a very strong Bette, but her heart is her character and you can’t get away from that. Thanks for sticking with the story. If you haven’t read it before I think you will enjoy the ride once we get over these hurdles.
