    Peculiar Hesitation – Chapter 8

Lara found herself smiling, Hey, Dana. Shouldnt you be in a wedding right now?

Dana whispered, I still have some time. Do you think you can come here?

I dont know, Dana. I thought we all decided it was best that I not show up there. Alice isnt going to be happy to see me.

    Please, Lara.

Lara relented, against her better judgment hearing the desperation in Danas voice. Can you give me 10 minutes to get there?

The next ten minutes felt like the longest ten minutes shes ever waited. She jumped up when she heard the knock on the door. She pulled it open, Hey.

Lara smiled back, Hi. Cold feet?

I was hoping you could warm them.

Lara hugged the half dressed groom. You know I cant.

I know. Dana scratched her ear for what seemed like the millionth time.

    Lets get you done dressing.

Dana looked down at the mismatched buttons on her shirt. Good idea. Her fingers couldnt undo the buttons, they were shaking so much.

Here. Allow me. Lara reached out and started unbuttoning Danas shirt. Dana gulped audibly to which Lara responded saying Danas name curtly.

    Im really nervous, Lara.

Im sorry. Its just thatyoure getting married, Dana, and Im dressing you. Its not exactly the most comfortable position for me knowing that Alice would probably kill me if she saw this.

Since when has that stopped you?

Lara backed away from Dana. Since I know how you feel about her.

Dana went back to trying to finish buttoning the last two buttons.

Lara lightly slapped her hands away, Ill get it. She had one button to go when she looked at Dana who was pale as a ghost. Dana?

Needsitnow. She managed to sputter out as she hobbled back to the chair. She lowered her head to her knees.

Lara stroked her back, Dana, honey, should I get Alice?

Dana shook her head. After a few minutes, she stood up, I need to go outside.

Lara followed Dana. Are you sure youre ok?

Ill be fine in a little while. I have to clear my head. Dana headed outside and over to the limo with Lara trailing her. Dana tapped the driver on the shoulder, Driver, just drive.
