    Pieces of Time, Chapter VIII

My head quickly raises again to see Tina.

“Can someone please tell me what in the hell the problem is here?” Kit blurts out.

“Apparently Danielle is moving in with Tina.”

    “Wha-“

“No, she isn’t Kit.” Tina says looking at me.

“Then explain to me what she just meant, Tina?”

“We were out to dinner last night, she jumped the gun when she told me her lease was soon up on her apartment. So, she asked to move in with me. I got overwhelmed and accidentally said yes, regretting it immediately. I’m sorry she had to blurt that out, I was going to tell her later today that it was a mistake.”
“Were you even going to mention it to me?”

“Yes, Bette.” She says to me. “I just wanted to tell her first, I invited her here to tell her this. I was consulting in Alice, I had no idea you were going to show up with the kids.”

“I don’t understand, why didn’t you just tell me when you had the chance in front of the entrance, I asked you what was wrong.”

“I thought I could hide this from you until after, Bette. I didn’t want a scene. But I was stupid to think I could stop it.” Tina sighs. “Do you really think I was do that to our children?”

“No.” I say. “I was just angry, Tina. It just upset me.” I look at Tina and look at Kit in the corner leaning against the wall.

“Now, cool down.” Tina says before exiting the room.

“You heard her, now do what she just said and take a breather.”

“When it comes to my children, I over react but it’s only because they are my world.”

“Did you really believe Tina would do that to the kids. I sure know you didn’t Bette.”

“Of course not, I was just livid. I got overwhelmed in the situation.”

    “Look Tina, I apologize.”

“When it comes to a big announcement, people usually talk with each other on when to tell people before just blurting it out.”

    “I know, and I shouldn’t have done what I did. I’m sorry.”

I can feel my anger take over.

“And you said it in front of Bette. Out of anyone, Bette.”

Danielle stands there slightly leaned against the kitchen counter of my house.

“You should have known that she wasn’t the one to say it in front of. You knew I never gotten the chance to tell her.”

“Look, I’m going to leave.” She says. “I’m going to let you cool down.”

    “Fine.”

She stands there staring at me before pushing herself off of the counter and leaving.

The second I hear the door shut, my brain snaps and I realize I had been acting dramatic because of my anger.

“Damn it.” I swear to myself.

The day passes by slowly as I make myself dinner for one and sit on my living room floor with a glass of wine and my spaghetti. I eat it while watching the television like my children does. I flick through the channels for about 5 minutes before stopping at an old classic-cheesy movie and pulling myself to watch it.

I pull my phone from my pocket when the first commercial begins and I realize how harsh I was towards Danielle. It had been my fault for telling her yes, I shouldn’t have panicked and told her the truth.

Suddenly I hear the door bell. I stand wearing nothing but comfy short shorts and a tank top.

When I open the door I see Bette standing there holding a rose.

“Did you get the right house?”

“Well, does a beautiful woman I use to date named Tina Kennard live here?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” I say. “But beware, she is a stupid angry fool who looks like a messy slob and is drinking wine while eating her dinner in front of a very old and cheesy classic movie.” I pause. “Also, where are our children?”

“They are with Rachel at the house.”

    I smile and nod.

“By the way..you would never let me eat in front of the tv, so I’m jealous.” Bette says chuckling before pointing the rose in front of me. “This is for me thinking you would make such a decision without thinking of about children. And for me getting so angry.”

I smile and slowly grab to take it.

“That is very nice of you.” I smile.
