Quirks
”Stop it, Alice.”
”I’m sorry.”
The waitress came by our table to see if we needed anything else and Alice placed an order for a slice of chocolate cream pie. Once the server took her leave, Alice avoided my gaze.
”Are we done?” I asked, hoping we were. She finally peeled her eyes from her coffee cup to meet mine.
”I don’t know. Is that it?” She shrugged.
”Alice, I love y-”
”Just don’t, Bette. I don’t need a consolation prize.”
”It’s not a consolation. I truly do love you. You’re the first person in Los Angeles I met that I really care about. I value your friendship tremendously, and I recognize that my new relationship is difficult for you. If you don’t want to hang out with Tina and me anymore, I understand. But I hope for my sake that you and I can pick up the pieces of our friendship once you’ve stopped hurting.”
I could see that she was fighting back the tears. There was nothing I could ever say to effectively undo the pain I had caused her, but it would be cruel to give her a glimmer of hope that she and I could ever be a couple again.
”You’re my best friend, Alice. I don’t want to lose you.” I told her. ”But I’m falling in love with Tina a little bit more every day. She makes me happy. She makes me feel amazing. She makes me feel -”
”The way I could never make you feel.” She finished my sentence with a little bite. I sighed hard, not wanting to respond because what she said was true. ”I get it.” She said softly and looked down at her hands in her lap. ”I’m sorry I asked.”
”And I’m sorry it didn’t work out.” I truly was. ”You’re young and cute and smart and sexy in your own awkward way, Al. You will date again. You just gotta get past this and get back out there.”
”I know.” She said as she huffed a sigh. ”At least you and Tina can be my wingmen.”
I chuckled at my new role in Alice’s life. ”Anytime, Iceman.”
”No, I’m Maverick, you’re Iceman.”
”Whatever you say, Alice.” I said happy that my friend was at least open to the idea of dating again. I checked my watch knowing that Tina would be meeting us at any time now. I left my house early because Alice said she wanted to talk to me about something personal so Tina was still getting ready in my bathroom before I left. It took every ounce of strength not to strip off my clothes and join her in that hot shower she had been taking before I walked out the door.
As I let my mind wander back to that steamy shower scene, the waitress returned with Alice’s pie.
”Want some, Bette?” She asked as she picked up her fork.
”No, I’m good.” I replied.
Just as Alice was about to take the first bite, my gorgeous house guest waltzed in the door of the Planet decked out in her Hollywood power suit. I waved her over to our table and received the most gorgeous smile once she spotted us.
”Holy fuck that’s good pie!” Alice exclaimed as Tina slid into the chair next to me and greeted me with a kiss.
”Good morning, Alice.” My girlfriend said.
”Oh my God, Tina you have to taste this.” My best friend said sticking out her fork that held a good portion of creamy chocolate goodness.
”Ooh, that looks yummy.” Tina said as she leaned over to take a bite from the utensil. As soon as the pie hit her taste buds, her eyes rolled up as her eyelids fluttered in the exact manner I had just described to Alice. ”Mmmmmm, that is sooooo good.”
As if on cue, Alice looked at me and snorted a laugh. ”Okay, Porter. You’re right, that was pretty cute.” She admitted.
I grinned as my girlfriend looked back and forth at Alice and me, slightly perplexed. ”What’s pretty cute?” She asked, a dollop of cream still hanging out on the corner of her mouth.
”Nothing.” I replied and leaned in to lick the cream off of her before kissing her square on the lips. I hoped that in time, Alice would become just as good of a friend to Tina as she was to me.

Welcome to the site with the greatest writers
Fanfic the planet.
Adorable as Bette describes the peculiarities
Tina that made her fall in love with her, too
beautiful.
Do not stop writing this story.
5 stars.

Ally! So good to hear from you again! When can we expect a new story from you, my dear?
Nice like it
have to agree with Bette…seeing Tina tried so hard to wink was adorable… :-D
Super cute. It made me wonder if that’s the way Laurel winks in real life or if she really was just acting.
hahahaha…I was wondering myself… :-D
Simply adorable, thank you !!
I just love this so simple yet miraculous way one never can say why they fall in love with someone – it’s just it, something magic, impossible to explain to others and even to ourselves…
Now, thinking about the way I would answer to the “why” I love my own one true love, I also see her way to smile, to react, those little gestures, her way to express things… but the mystery of it would remain !
All I can think about, as I always did, is the famous quote of Montaigne about his friendship with La Boetie – but I only know it in french : “Parce que c’était lui, parce que c’était moi”. Period ! :-)
Thanks for dusting off this old, fluffy little tale. Glad you enjoyed it!!
