    Remember Who You 21

And after every date, at some point during the next day Bette would text Tina and reference something that happened the night before with a hashtag #thisiswhy.

They started innocently, sweet romantic texts…

The way your hair moved in the ocean breeze #thisiswhy…

The movie, sitting so close to you that I could hear you take each breath #thisiswhy…

Your attempt at French and the way you dance #thisiswhy…

    Then becoming more personal, sexy…

    That dress #thisiswhy…

Sweatpants. Netflix. Popcorn. A warm blanket… and you in my arms #thisiswhy…

And then later, when Tina was on the verge of giving into her desires, her desperate need to let Bette take her, go all the way. Teetering on the brink of being ready…

Your breasts in my hands #thisiswhy…

    Or…

The way my tongue will feel inside you #thisiswhy…

This is why I love you each text said, long before the words felt comfortable being said out loud.

This is why I need you each text said, why I crave your attention, your touch. You.

It was yet another thing, another gesture they had stopped long before everything unraveled, the courtship of each other, the thoughtful wooing of their mate, the ongoing love affair.

Tears moved slowly down her cheeks as Bette realized what this moment signified. Tina understood, she always understood. She recognized the significance of the evening, the crowning achievement for Bette professionally and for their relationship personally.

She reached Bette and took her into her strong arms, holding her close as she whispered in her ear…

“I am so proud of you. Go undress, put on your robe, our massage starts in ten minutes…”

    And so Bette did.

When she came back Tina was frowning at her phone.

“Work calling you Babe?” she asked.

“No… I have five missed calls from this unknown number and for some reason my texts are not coming through… oh well, I will power it down while we get pampered and see if that helps…”

They enjoyed the deep tissue massage, the body scrubs, the lotions… all ending in glass after glass of champagne for both of them.

Then two makeup artists arrived to further spoil them with an easy evening of preparation for the event. Knowing Bette had likely skipped lunch Tina prepared hummus, carrots and celery, cheese cubes and pita slices to tide them over as they drank the rest of the champagne and enjoyed the moment.

Hours later, once the makeup artists had left, the bottle upside down in the chiller and light music playing on the overhead speakers, they danced in their robes, giggling.

Bette taking the lead, as she twirled and swung her wife around the living room. The mood was lighthearted, brimming with obvious affection between the two as they spoke quietly, laughing often and kissing constantly.

When it came time to dress, they did so together, buttons and zippers and necklaces all fastened until they stood together facing each other, hand in hand, awed by the vision in front of them.

Bette had chosen to wear an expensive, tailored black suit with a slate gray dress shirt underneath.

In her highest heels, she looked every inch the respected art expert that she was. Tina had gone for elegant, her hair up in a loose, tousled bun that showed her long neck and high cheekbones, soft tendrils framing her face.

Her dress was revealing, but tasteful, showing off her curves and toned figure to perfection.

    “You look so beautiful Tee…”

    “You are quite stunning Bette”

    “That dress…”

    “Those curves…”

    “Your breasts, my God”

    “Focus Porter”

“I am, your breasts, did I mention those?”

    “You did”

    “Well they are fantastic…”

“Your ass in that suit should be outlawed Bette. So fucking sexy.”

“God, Tina I have never felt so relaxed and calm before an opening. It is all because of you, thank you for today and every day Baby”

“Oh Bette. Don’t you see? For all your fancy degrees you really are just an old softie and I know how to take care of you.”

    “Tina?”

    “Yes Love?”

    “I love you”

“And I you. Ready to go, Beautiful?”

    “Yes Honey”

    And so they did.

They wanted to get there early so that they could a final walk through together, with the lights on and the music playing. Before they opened the doors together, hand in hand.

Tina grabbed her phone, switching it back on and dropping it into her purse as they headed out the door.

The limo arrived on schedule, the evening had arrived….

    1. Sorry about the power failure but you more than made up with the tenderness of these lovers. I know the missed calls are Lucy. Let the unknowing be pushed to the background. An successful opening will give them the strength they need for whatever evil awaits. I hope Tina’s naiveté about Eric expose her to damage. Let Bette have the clearness of heart to protect her along with Lara and others.

    2. Hi BK,

Sad you lost a entire chapter due to power failure, but wow i loved this chapter so much!

It was hot, sweet and tender!

Please, let Tina be careful when she is in Chicago and who is Bette going to call, i expect someone who will protect Tina. I hope Tina is going to call back to that unfamiliar number, Lucy, so that she will be given a head up about Eric’s intentions to Tina.

Thank you for this wonderful chapter!

    3. Sorry for the loss of your creative output, that sucks. Do you remember some of it? Some sentences, the essence of the chapter’s course? Had that myself back in my writing days, at 2 am after writing for hours and disregarding to save the file.
Thanks for this sensual chapter as substitute. Feels like the calm before the storm.

When will Tina get in touch with her sister? I think it could somehow be important for Chicago.
And what about Bette’s call? Did she call Eric to give him a peace of her mind? Would be very Alpha-Bette but not very thought-out. Like Bibi I hope she called some enforcement (still thinking of some kind of cavalry).

Enjoyed this chapter very much, thanks for sharing. Waiting for the opening and the first gusts of the storm to come.

I do remember some of it but some will change because this chapter gave some of it away already – the missed phone calls for one. But yes the essence is still there. I write these chapters much more easily than the drama filled ones. The one with Eric took forever because he is so vile. Anyway, appreciate your comments!

    4. The clam before the storm. Lovely chapter. I like the memories of when they first got together and the “This is why” incidents. Looks like its going to be a wonderful gallery opening. Tommorrow, its off to Chicago, and lets win there!.

Thank you for this chapter….can not wait for more.

    5. “They had not been lovers for long and Bette remembered the first time she realized she didn’t care that her careful order was not so controlled. She found she didn’t mind a change to her routine, her control over things being replaced by the safety Tina instilled in her.
Suddenly it was ok to be Bette Porter. Complicated, yes. Unyielding and stubborn, frequently. But also loving and gentle and generous. Kind. Protective.”

I still didn’t finish to read this chapter but I had to express how much I love this analysis of Bette (our dear so-called Allmighty Porter but so deeply vulnerable actually) and this so simple and yet so deeply touching remembering about the first morning coffee with Tina and the mugs : just that is enough to summarize your exquisite talent. I just adore it.

,,, now, I’m ready to finish my reading – and ready for the coming drame about this disgusting Eric and the sister I cannot wait to meet and hear…

Thank you SO much for sharing, again and again ! It’s a gift I’m more than ever grateful for,
      A;

      • You are most welcome. Thank you for your kind, heartfelt words. I think we both see Bette the same way. Sometimes she is hard to write because of her complexity. I appreciate your comments!

    6. Reading each page of this marvelous story of yours… #thisiswhy…
Smiling with tenderness in my heart in front of my favorite two… #thisiswhy…
Feeling much better thanks to writers like you… #thisiswhy…

This is why I love so much your story.
Thank you – as simply as that.
      A.
