Reprisal Reprised- Chapter 18 (Part 1)
“That’s nice, Bette, really nice” said Shelly while trying to hide the smile on her face. “After all I’ve done for you, this is how you repay me? I mean all I want is a little insight into your personal life to ensure that whatever you’re doing is the right thing for you” she said as she stood to follow Bette through the gallery.
Reaching the front door, Bette turned and smiling at Shelly said, “You’ll lock up I take it?”
“Dinner with Lee, right?”
“The door, Shelly, you’ll lock it behind me?” asked Bette with a raised eyebrow.
“Or is it dinner with someone else?” she teased, holding the door for Bette as she walked through.
“That’s what it is” she continued. “You’re totally having dinner with someone else!!”
“Good night Shelly” said Bette as she walked through the door, slowing until she heard the sound of the door locking behind her.
“Women” sighed Bette as she made her way to her car. Throwing all of her things in the back seat, she got in and pulled away, chuckling and shaking her head.
Looking one last time at the pots that were simmering away on the stove, Tina reviewed the timing of when everything would be done. She did not want it to appear that she had spent a ton of time on this meal, but truth be known, she had been able to focus on nothing else ever since she had spoken to Bette on Monday.
Satisfied that everything was on schedule, she looked at the clock and saw that it was a couple of minutes before seven.
Removing her apron, she walked back to her bedroom, looked at herself one last time in the mirror and then sprayed on the perfume that Bette had always said was her favorite on her.
Walking back into the living room, she turned on some soft jazz and got the last of the candles lit. She kept the lights up so as not to come across as too romantic a setting. As much as she would have liked to communicate her desire to make things romantic, she knew that it was inappropriate and that it would only scare Bette off.

Oh the angst! This isn’t going to be easy or fun. I have plenty of time to read 20 or so pages :-) Great chapter!
Oh, I do think they need to drink the two bottles of wine and progress a bit here. Cute how they each got the wine that the other one likes.
ok i want more and more..cant get enough of that story…Bette is really hard with Tina she say things to hurt i hope Tina be brave and dont ever think on given up on them..cant wait for more of that dinner..thanks Skip..amazing as always :o)
Tina keep going, you’ll break into Bette eventually. Love it and great chapter as always. please post soon
Wow, kinda rough between the two. Great post.
bring on those 20 pages!
Jesus Skip…you always leave my heart and stomach in my throat!
So, I’ll have to spend the rest of my weekend with my heart ripped from my chest, crushed and bleeding, tossed into the bushes of a southern California patio garden. Thanks, Skipton you’re a peach…(hugs)
Bring on those 20 pages Ilove reading your stories PLEASE POST SOON
Nicely done. You gave these 2 some dimension.
Your usual great stuff…by the way, I would make time to read 20 pages! But as you wish Skip, as you wish…
Bette figures if she hurts Tina that she’ll give up…but she hasn’t broken Tina’s resolve. Tina just needs to keep focus on the goal — she already knows how Bette is going to try to throw her off. Funny, they know each other so well…yet it’s harder for them to even speak to one another. Each anticipates the other. Please continue.
I for one DO NOT have a probably reading 20 pages of this story, so whatever you have please bring it. I love the dialogue. You can feel the emotions, it’s like your right there.
Skip,You always have the ability to move me through your words and powerful imagery. Your dialogue is always on point w/the characters and so much more meaningful than the show. I so want to read more.
great beginning for them, i think tina, the gardener can make the garden (bette’s heart) look beautiful and in love again…i hope their journey back together won’t be too long and painful
Such dialogue – such tension – such a writer. I think you are getting better with each chapter and you were damn good to start with. Thanks for the pleasure of this story.
Great chapter. Looking forward to more!!
**Pounding on desk** More, more, more!!!
I’m ready for 20 more pages of masterful writing although it is painful.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great chapter. I’m glad to see that you seem to have found a nice rythm of writing. And BTW, 20 pages would be quite a treat! But as usual, we’ll be very patient and follow your lead.
Tks for 3…Now if you would like a poll…3 vs 20…I’m sure we’d win and you would be posting 20…so pls we don’t mind really post it all….tks!!!
Skip all I want for Christmas is 20 pages!
thank you skip for a great story -one would have to say that Bette was devastated by Tina’s flight and yet she hasn’t cut her off completely but she sure isn’t making it easy for Tina. Perserve Tina.
I love the long & drawn out tortured dance these two do ( or conversation if you really want to call it that!) Do please write MORE! & no need to hurry the story along – I’ll eat up all the angst you care to write – LOVE IT!
Perhaps!! That’s something! :D *Heart wells with hope* Thanks for posting and keeping your promise, Skip! :)
Angst and more angst! Great update. Tina just needs to keep going forward and eventually Bette will understand and hopefully forgive.
Skip 20 pages I would love, In fact I think that you should write a book I won’t be able to put it down. I don’t understand how people are putting Bette down, I think Tina is lucky that she is talking to her, although I do want them to Kiss and make up, great chapter as always
Wow, that was great, I would love to read another 17 pages please!!! As always, thanks for your effort in this story!!!
Wonderful as always Skip. please give us more soon.
that was sad but at least thy are talking… thanks
I love your style, your stories, can’t wait to read anything you want to write. thanks for always delivering such quality. Your stories take me away from this bleak cold winter in waiting.
Oh, I feel for Bette and for Tina to still persevere in her hopes of winning Bette back. It will be a long and painful journey indeed. Love this line from Bette: “Whether or not you have to endure the death of the beauty that it once was, just to watch it fade away in front of your eyes, dying a slow death from the lack of touch that had once made it so beautiful.” It pretty much sums up her feelings and her fears if she lets Tina in and there’s a chance she’ll have to go through that again. **Big Sigh** I see that no one’s complaining about the 20 pages. That would really be a treat and a great X’mas gift, Skip. Thanks again.
Harsh Bette! Hope Tina can remain resolute.
Strapped in and hanging on for dear life.
Not that I am telling what to do but…DAMIT! DON’T WAIT SO LONG TO POST!! Your story always leaves me wanting more! You are AMAZING!
haha down low got it right!! the angst!! jesus!
skip….oh my gawd! Excellent writing…I have absolutely NO problems reading 20 or 200 pages of your writing. Thank you for this chapter, and another plea here for part 2 to be posted very soon. It looks like a long road ahead for B&T but I am so invested in this journey of theirs. Santa, please let Skipton write for TLW, or the TLW spin off!
I just read all of your chapters tonight and I LOVE it! It’s like all the other posters are saying, it’s sad, heartwrenching, lovely, funny, and every other emotion rolled into one. Please continue!!!
That was so good, looking forward to reading more. Thank you.
Skip this is not like you, your not a tease. So why begin now I have already said that I know it would be a pleasure to read your work every single day. So lets start posting those pages already. As for the story even though there is so much angst between them its still the most intense feeling ever.
argh..sad* Love your stories always..
I love this. And 20 pages? That would be wonderful! Thanks.
Your writing is brilliant.
I dunt mind having 20 pages altogether. Actually I’d love it! heehee
Oh, my heart hurts. This story is marvelous and I, personally, could take on 20 pages. Bring it on… ;)
I think it was a great way to have Bette start talking about how she felt when Tina left, b/c they weren’t just talking about plants. I’d take twenty pages anyday. Thanks for your writing.
Need more, this story is so captivating you have my full attention…So sad I hope Tina can turn this around. Love the story, please post soon.
20 pages would be a delightful feast.
Do we need to wait for 3or4 days for a update? That was a wee bit sad, and Bette might be planning on moving? 20 pages wouldnt hurt us. thanks
Damn Bette is hard on Tina, and hope Tina not give up and true love always come at the end right, hope so. Ok bring that 20 pages and post soon please, thanks!
