Reunions reunite: Did I miss it?

Reunions reunite: Unofficial JLB+T Challenge #1

    “Did I miss it?”

“She’s so beautiful Ange,” Alice cooed, running her finger along the tiny rosy cheek as she slept peacefully in her mother’s arms, “so beautiful”

“Isn’t she” said Angelica, “I can’t believe she’s actually here” She looked up at her Aunt, “Did Mom call yet?”

    “Not yet,” replied Alice,

Angelica sighed, “I can’t believe she missed it.”

Way across town Bette cursed and yelled as she made her way through the Saturday morning traffic towards LAX. Tina’s flight was due to arrive in fifteen minutes, she pressed on the horn again …

    “Move! Goddamnit!”

Outside the delivery suite, where she’d been escorted to by the senior midwife after repeatedly using her cell phone against their wishes, Kit called round the rest of the family to spread the good news.

“Hey Shane … a little girl … 3.2 kilo’s, ten fingers and ten toes … she’s beautiful … no … no … Tina didn’t make it … Bette’s gone to get her from the airport now … okay … okay, see you later.”

Alice stuck her head around the door, “Did you call Helena?”

“Not yet,” replied Kit, “she’s next on the list.”

Bette pulled the car into the short stay and leapt out, pausing halfway to go back and get the iced coffee she’d picked up on the way knowing that adjusting to the LA heat from England Tina would want something cool. It was now luke-warm on the front seat. She grabbed them both anyway and dashed inside.

Inside the arrivals terminal Tina tapped her foot on the luggage cart waiting impatiently for her cases to appear, fighting back the tears that threatened to appear ever since she’d boarded her flight at Heathrow. Her little girl was having a baby and she absolutely had to be there, she had to. She switched on her cell phone, fully aware that it wouldn’t work but prepared to try anyway. She needn’t have bothered, Bette had warned everyone on pain of death that if Tina found out from anyone other than her that she’d missed the birth of their granddaughter, heads would roll.

She saw her cases come into view,

“Excuse me … excuse me,” she said to the couple in front of her, “excuse me that’s my bag”
