Reunions reunite: Did I miss it?

Angelica nodded, turning her attention back to the tiny person cradled in her arms, “Hello baby Emily, you want to meet your other granny? … you do, don’t you … yes you do”

Bette pulled the car into the parking lot and shut off the engine. Tina had been silent ever since they’d driven into town.

“Tina?” she said, concerned that the combination of jet lag and missing the birth of her granddaughter had Tina on the verge of tears constantly.

Tina looked at her as Bette grabbed her hands, urging her out of the car,

    “Huh?”

Bette laughed, “You know I think this baby definitely has Porter genes,” she said, looking for a reaction,

“Oh you do, do you?” enquired Tina, “just what makes you think that?”

Bette nodded, “She’s early!” she slipped her hand through Tina’s “Come on, let me introduce you to our granddaughter.”

Tina followed Bette through the entrance and up the nearest flight of stairs, aware how Bette never once looked behind, her firm grasp of Tina’s hand ensuring she would follow. She looked at their hands, dazed, astonished at how after so many years they still fit together as though no other person had ever touched them. She wanted to see Ange, she wanted to see the baby, but more than anything she wanted for Bette to never let go of the hold on her hand. Bette pulled her to catch up, their shoulders touching lightly, she turned to her and grinned.

“Wait till you see her T, she’s so beautiful”

Tina smiled, nuzzling her nose against Bette’s shoulder, “Of course she is, you said she was a Porter.”

Bette tilted her head in a light frown, unsure of the right response. Sometimes the friendship they had going physically pained her but she had willingly let Tina go in the hope that a fresh start would make her happy. Whilst they’d both lived in LA and occasionally dated in between family dinners and holidays with Angelica, Tina’s spark had withered and died.

So Bette had released her, given her their blessing and told her to go. They’d driven her to the airport and kissed her goodbye with promises of phone calls and visits and coming home for Thanksgiving, and then she had left. And right up until that point when the plane flew away neither Bette nor Angelica had really believed she would go. Bette slowed her pace down as they approached the room, Tina still hugging her shoulder tight.
