    S. O. (Esss Ohhh)

Something was nagging at her, and she was sickened by the possibility that Henry was likely expressing, again, a kind of racism, similar in other dispiriting ways to things he’d been saying about their kids over the last six plus weeks.

She shut her eyes.   She couldn’t help but imagine staring down an abyss, seeing a darkness at the heart of their marriage, confronting something that was at the root of the widening chasm between them. She felt at a loss about how to cope with it.

The unhappy thought pricked at her consciousness as they continued arguing over Tina’s decision to leave New York, and him, so that he could spend time alone with the kids. Tina paced up and down the deck, unable to stay in one place as they argued. But thirty minutes in, Tina slumped down onto one of the Adirondack deck chairs. She thought about how different things had been years ago, settling into their new apartment, newly-married, just out of college, and Henry happily running a newly-acquired firm that his family’s corporate “mothership” had scouted out for him. Henry had been a gallant, handsome husband eager to start a family.

At first, he’d been enthusiastic about adopting Angelica as a baby, and had happily lived in Kenya with Tina for the few months that the laws there required from adoptive parents before they were allowed to adopt. Having fulfilled their obligations under Kenyan law, Tina and Henry flew back to the States with their beautiful baby girl. Henry had been an exemplary father, actively participating in the care of their baby. Several years later, when Angelica turned four, Henry had quickly agreed to Tina’s suggestion that they adopt again. Angelica was in pre-school, Tina was now firmly ensconced in William’s inner circle, and Henry was doing well with the firm that had been acquired for him, everyone thought, despite a few hiccups here and there. At least the firm hadn’t gone under, his dad expressed to Tina, privately, during one of the Sunday dinners that was a tradition in Henry’s family.

They hadn’t ventured as far to find TJ, as they’d had to with Angelica, however. Through Catholic Charities in Louisiana, they’d adopted TJ, who they’d learned was of mixed race, and whose parents had perished in one of the horrific storms that lashed New Orleans. TJ had been a happy baby, delightful to all who’d encountered him, and Henry had been a devoted dad. TJ had grown into a rambunctious toddler; Angelica into a precocious eight-year old – everything about their lives had felt perfect until the kidnapping.

    1. Thanks for the chapter!
Great to see new part of the story.

And Tina – this is Bette! You just need to jump on her and Oh wait, you just almost did it:)

    2. Just had to say that I was so happy to see a new chapter to this story! Love your attention to detail and YES to more teasing from those two.

      Thanks for posting!

    3. So great to have a new chapter, thanks ever so much. Always wonderful to read about their love blossoming, and right now it is on a rampage. Yay!!!!! Tina will get all her stuff together, take care of her children and tell henry to go straight to hades and beyond. He is too much of a d–k to tell her he wants out, just not much of a man, his mother had already told her so. Tina should have listened to her and run like hell. I think he has already found someone to keep him warm at night, whether it is Stockholm or New York. Good riddance to him, he’s not worth piss. She needs Bette in her life for a love that is total and complete and when the children are there they will look like a truly complete family. Can hardly wait for all this to unfold. Thanks again for posting.

      • Speaking of Stockholm, for some reason, I thought you’d appreciate the following one liner from Ken Dodd (RIP):
“Just read a book about Stockholm Syndrome. It started off badly, but by the end I really liked it…”

        Side-splitting ????

Not picking on Swedish friends and readers out there, of course.

Thanks for commenting. Now let me get a pot for H to p*ss in, bec that’s all he deserves, right?

    4. Welcome back skydancer!

I missed you and your story!

They met and bonded immediatley, there was a instant connection.

Henry is a asshole and it wouldn’t surprise me if he is cheating around Tina’s back. Dump him and start a family with Bette.

It is clear that Lena is history as possible lover, but i do hope she will continue to be a friend for Bette.

Fantastic update, please don’t let us wait too long for the next chapter!

      • I hadn’t and i doubt about possibility of this.

That’s why i always be sceptical about IC version friendship between Bette and Alice in TLW and that Alice truly cared about B&T relationship.

    5. Hi Z, yes, it has been a long time. I’ve had the next few chapters in draft, but haven’t had time to finish them. Meanwhile, a few things happened IRL, so life sucked for a while, and I wasn’t writing anything. Then a new story wormed its way into my head, in a way I couldn’t ignore so I’ve been writing that one out. May post that sooner than the next chapter for this one, and I hope you’ll like it.

Take good care, in the meantime!

    6. Oh no, it’s been 3 1/2 years since the last entry. Please don’t tell me that COVID-19 impacted your writing.

I love this new/different story line!! When TJ arrives the intersection with Bette (Jay) will just add more and more to the story.

And, don’t forget the LA airport lounge conversation that Bette heard period to her departure. Another line of this great story!

      Please write/publish more, PLEASE!
