”Oh… I’m sorry… is this jealousy I’m picking up in the tone of your voice?” Alice was feeling hurt for some reason.
Tina remained silent and released a huge sigh she wasn’t aware she was holding, for she knew she had no right to take it out on Alice.
”TK… you are not here… she is… you were never willing to give it a chance… she was… you didn’t come back here to pick up the pieces after you left… she came… what else do you want me to say?” It truly hurt Alice to actually verbalize that small summary of things that never happened between two of her best friends, but in the end it was the simple enumeration of their past. And there was no way to get around it.
”That she took advantage of the situation?… That she was MY best friend when I met Bette and she betrayed me by sleeping with the person she knew I loved?” Tina´s voice was no longer filled with annoyance, but Alice could feel the pain instead.
”Okay… you do have a point… but had you done anything about your feelings before she slept with Bette?” The blonde was not trying to defend anyone, but she did feel the need to make Tina realize that relationships usually require a certain amount of work to get built, regardless of how much you love the other person.
”That’s not the point Al and you know it…”
”I may know it, but you and I both know that there isn’t ANYONE more blind when it comes to feelings than our little Bette Porter… so do you really think she would have gone for Julia instead of you if she would have known?… Do you really think that she would be marrying her if she had the smallest bit of an idea of how you truly feel about her?” Alice had decided to be relentless.
”But that is the thing Al… she knew… Bette knew…” Tina started explaining but was quickly interrupted by her friend.
”No, you think Bette knew… but she didn’t… you never stopped to consider that she may not have realized how you really, truly feel… again it’s our blind Bette we’re talking about here… besides, thanks to who do you think that… whatever happened between you two actually did happen? Because throughout the years… we all conspired for you two to actually get it on already… it was getting on everyone’s nerves… and guess what… you never did…” Alice felt as if she was explaining things to a five year old.
And that was it, Alice´s words had Tina against the ropes as she was out of arguments. The blonde had no choice but to admit she just was plain jealous and mostly hurt.
Not hurt at her friend´s arguments, simply furious at her own self because she wasn’t the one planning a wedding. And most importantly she wasn’t the one sharing her life with that amazing creature, she wasn’t the one sleeping with her, eating with her, staring at her while she slept, touching her, kissing her. She wasn’t the one with the possibility to start a family with Bette, or just grow old with her. All those thoughts were not only aggravating, they were also eating her alive.
