    Snapshots – Ch. 5 – Intuition

I offered to help, didnt I?

Carmen looked at her with utter frustration. They had been avoiding talking ever since she had told everyone what she and Kevin had decided. When Isabella had offered to help, Carmen had taken it as a signal that her mother was backing off, and though that made her suspicious, she was emotionally exhausted and welcomed the chance at peace. Apparently, her suspicion had been right.

She moved over to her mother and smoothed the tape back over the box as she spoke.

It took me an hour to get that organized. Why in the world would you

Isabella stood and placed a finger at her daughters lips. Carmens eyebrows stayed raised but she silenced out of habit. But it wasnt enough to stop her from returning to fixing the tape, which wasnt sticking as well the second time.

Carmen, look at me. Carmen gave up on the tape and turned to where she had left the roll. Carmen

The tone change in her mothers voice was enough to turn her around. Isabella pointedly waited until Carmen met her eyes before speaking.

We both know what this is about.

Mom, I dont know what youre thinking, but I have no idea what this is, much less what its about. Now tell me, how could you help by unpacking my things?

The look she shot Isabella was one of accusation. She was mad and she had no idea why. That wasnt completely true either. She knew why. And she hated that her mother knew why too.

Please, sit down. Isabella sat on the bed and looked at her daughter.

Carmen sighed and sat down next to her.

Carmen, I love you and I want you to be happy. Which is why it kills me to see you lying to yourself like this.

Carmen closed her eyes. Mom, you dont know what youre talking about.

A warm hand rubbed up and down her shoulder.

I know you, my girland we both know you are packing up to go and be with someone you dont lovesomeone you cant love.

Carmen looked at her mother, who smiled softlyknowingly.

But Kevin is such a good man and I…made a promise to him

I know hes a good manall the more reason you shouldnt lie to him.

Carmen closed her eyes and laid her head on her mothers shoulder. Isabella kissed her daughters forehead and spoke softly.

He deserves a woman who adores him…and Carmen, so do you.

    1. nah, the only thing JCS’s story and mine share are the pairing and Carmen’s mom’s name (as I couldn’t imagine her called anything else)…I wouldn’t dream of claiming that I was glimpses into someone else’s work. Though I’m a huge fan of “The Story of Us”

    2. It’s been forever since you posted. I know you probably won’t post again but if one day for the heck of it you decide to come back and read posts, just know that I love this fic. It’s just so touching and so real. I really wish you would finish it. *sigh*
