Tina laughed “I just hate what he did to her when she was so vulnerable “

“You have done an amazing job “

“Its been tough in places – I don’t think anyone else realises how much but we have both dug in and we have come out the other side”

“An old married couple “ Helena laughed

“Did you think what we did was really tacky ?”

“When you told me – yes I yes I did think that it was the most appalling idea. But seeing the ceremony if that’s what you want to call it – seeing the love between the two of you – that was nice”

“You cried “ Tina accused her best friend

“I could tell you that there was something in my eyes but the truth is that yes I did. The two of you are such a stunning couple and – well I have never seen any two women look at one another the way that you do. It looks like you see everything when you look at her “

Tina took a water bottle from the ground beside her suitcase and took a long drink at it

“I do – I wish I could explain but maybe if I could – maybe it would spoil things. Its something that’s never been there but was almost right from the start with her”

“When did you know ?”

“That Bette was the one ?”

Helena nodded – she was curious as to when the magic started for them as a couple.

“Bette says that she knew I was different the day we went for a run at the beach and I hurt her. I ran her into the sand. She prides herself on her running but so do I and it was competitive – she wanted to beat me because she had always won her races. And I wanted to beat her for the same reasons. I didn’t just beat her – I killed her “

Helena laughed – this was one of her favourite stories about the two women. She had heard it before – from both of them but she was happy to listen to it again.
