    Soul Mates – Chapter 8

    "Tina?"

Tina blinked, pulling herself from her thoughts to look at the scared brunette in front of her. What had she asked? Tina was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she didn’t hear Helena’s question. Seeing the look of confusion in Tina’s face, Helena repeated her question.

"Will you accept my apology and marry me?"

Tina didn’t know how to answer, she couldn’t at the moment. Bettye plagued her mind, she needed time.

    "Helena I . ."

She looked into the eyes of the desperate brunette, forcing herself not to break eye contact. She could easily see the sincerity in Helena’s eyes but Tina just couldn’t bring herself to say yes to the proposal, not when her heart belonged to someone else.

Helena saw the answer to her question in Tina’s eyes and her head dropped in defeat. Tina felt that familiar lump form in her throat, why couldn’t she stop hurting this proud woman? Helena certainly deserved better.

    "I’m sorry, Helena. So deeply sorry . . I just . ."

Helena shook her head as she brought up a gentle hand to Tina’s cheek, she even forced a faint smile.

    "Its okay, darling"

Tina couldn’t stop the tears that had begun to fall from her eyes but she nodded all the same. Love could be so painful sometimes.

"So what are you gonna do?"

Tina sighed as she looked down at the coffee sitting in front of her. Her fingers light tapped the styrofoam cup as she contemplated her friends words.

"I don’t know, Al. I mean, I call her multiple times a day, I even went to her house everyday before I came back and nothin’. What else can I do?"

Alice sat across from Tina, the depressed look on her friend’s face was enough to make her depressed too. Watching as Tina’s bottom lip quivering like it did only made Alice’s do the same.

Tina had gotten back from Alabama a few days ago with more sadness in those hazel orbs than Alice had ever seen. Apparently the blonde had gone to Alabama to divorce her wife and ended up reawakening a love that most people only dream about.

    1. bette is so thick in the head in this one. wake up and start treating tina right. Helena is so sweet. if Bette doesn’t want to fight for Tina, please set her free and let Helena win her over again.

    2. helena is sweet, decent, and beautiful. so if Bette wants to push Tina away…i won’t blame Tina for feeling something for Helena after being jilted. Bette wake up. Go get Tina or else someone else will!

    3. Yep, Bette would probably appreciate hearing that she was always the first choice. But she’ll have to get her head out of her pittuty to hear it. :-) Thank heaven for the superior mule-handling skills of Alice and Kit. Now when are we gonna learn what Bette’s been up to in her world-conquering activities? Maybe at the big show? (Doncha hate it when readers try to guess what’s coming? OK, I’ll stop doing that.)

    4. I love the phrase that it takes a village to raise a child. I sometimes think that it takes an extended family to get two people together who fate has guided to be in the same space so that they can chose their destiny to be together. Besides anything worth having is worth fighting for. Me thinks that the two lovers are ready to fight for each other!

    5. Someone has to make the first big overture or grand gesture… may as well be Bette since she seems to have been laboring under a lot of assumptions. Tina spilled her guts to everyone but Bette it seems (maybe she would have if Bette would have picked up the phone or seen her, though). Maybe once she gets to Alabama Bette will sweep her off her feet (in more ways than one)? A girl can hope ;) Thanks for the post! :)

    6. I’ve read the chapter a few times more and I think if Tina calls again she should tell Bette that she loves her and only her and wants to make their marriage work and that the divorce has been called off. I think Btte needs to hear that. Can’t wait to see what Bette thinks of the fashion show being in town. This is a great story.
