On the other hand if the management is motivated by their own personal needs more than the needs of the company, Bette’s true nature can remain hidden until the deal is complete.  In this scenario she receives more positive press and community involvement.  Bette just skates along riding a wave of positive press.  In this type of deal Bette can walk away with much more of the prize.

This is also the time in her business model that Bette sends a trusted third party in to suggest her name as a possible white knight to come in to save the day.  When the principles come to her of their own initiative they seem to swallow the bitter pill that is Bette’s truth better then if the take over is hostile were Bette force feeds the bad news.  Either way most of the time when the deal gets to this point Bette walks away the winner.  It just becomes a matter of how much profit she will make. 

What makes Bette so good at this game is her planning but also her ability to throw in the towel.  When the deal bogs down Bette is masterful at simplifying the issues often cutting out the compassion factor.  Compassion costs money.  This has the effect of throwing the entire deal into stark black and white reality.  It is at this point if things don’t go her way Bette’s willingness to abort the entire mission, cut her losses early minimizes her failures.  This abrupt bluntness also has the effect of bullying unwilling participants into Bette’s way of thinking.

As would be expected Harris Industries was managed by offspring who were more interested in saving their own skin then saving their companies.  They had jumped at the idea of Bette taking over to salvage their businesses.  What they loved is that Bette seemingly was going to save their tails at a cost which would provide them with a more than comfortable retirement.  Once Bette realized they had taken her bait and she had them hook line and sinker it was now time to take some of the prize away from them.  They were no longer in a position which had any leverage to use against Bette.  Now Bette turns the deal more in her favor by cutting down each family member’s cut of the deal, removing half of the Harris’s personal rewards.  It is at this point that they all realize too late that Bette is in control.  She has the families back up against the wall, they all have too much invested in selling to turn back.
