    The bitterest Pill

    ~~~~~~.
    Four days later Alice got the text message she had been fearing but knowing that was coming. She was in a meeting with the production team of her podcast discussing who would be their next guests and debating how far to go in their relentless diatribe against Trump. She picked the phone up and saw that it was from Bette – two words only
    SHE’S GONE
    Alice felt her tears forming almost immediately – she was devastated for both her friends – this was a heart-breaking way for a relationship to end that had started twenty years earlier. Tina might have found someone she was calling her “soul mate “but where did that leave Bette?
    She put all her papers in her bag and stood up.
    “I have to be somewhere else – do what you need to get the next podcast ready to record. I need to be with a close friend who is currently going through hell – you will all see me when you see me”
    It took Alice a long hour to get to Bette and Tina’s house. As she parked her car, she looked at the house and remembered helping them move in just before they married again – they were so in love and so happy. She recalled thinking that at last they had both found the peace they craved with one another. She hurried up the path with her stomach doing cartwheels fearing what a wreck Bette would be alone in her family home without her wife and daughter. Tina had destroyed Bette in just over a week. A gentle knock at the door and Alice waited.
    “Thank God you are here Alice “
    “Angie – what are you doing here?”
    “I am not deserting momma B “
    At 12 going on 22 Angie could not be anyone other than Bette’s daughter – as Helena had once said she had inherited the charm, intelligence and strong-minded stubbornness from BOTH her mother’s as well as adding her own brand of all three traits – in short, she was one fierce 12-year-old
    “What happened with Tina ?”
    Angie looked upset “She told me that I was going to New York with her and that TART”
    Alice smiled in spite of the situation – Angie didn’t have a conventional 12-year olds vocabulary.
    “And no one has pushed you around since you were in your stroller “
    “You better believe it “Angie replied giving Alice a blast of her own dazzling smile
    “Was there a row?”
    “The last week has been one long row “
    “How is she?”
    “Silent – she is just sitting crying and not doing anything “
    “Well you aren’t alone with her anymore “
    “It’s just going to be me and mom from now on “
    Alice stepped inside the house and looked at the girl “You aren’t going to be alone with her – you are always going to have us to lean on – I am so sorry you are having to deal with this “
    “I am not leaving her – one night momma T told me all about how many times they had split up and got back together and that they had both had other people – momma T even dated men”
    “I will tell you all about it one day “
    Angie pulled a face “Not sure I wanna know – when she told me I vowed that I would stay with the mom who needed me most – that mom B. How could momma T cheat on us? “
    Angie’s eyes filled with tears – Alice pulled her close and hugged her
    “I don’t know Angie – I tried to talk to her but “
    “She can out stubborn the other one “
    Alice released Angie “Yes – she doesn’t look it but Tina is stubborn “
    “I am going upstairs to do some homework “
    “Thanks honey – it will be okay – we will get you both through this “
    Alice stepped into the living area of the house – Bette was sitting in a single armchair staring into space. Alice casually sat down on the sofa and didn’t speak.
    “She’s gone Alice “
    “I am so sorry Bette – what happened -if you want to talk “
    Bette looked at Alice with tears streaming down her face “She doesn’t love me anymore – hasn’t loved me for months – met someone else who is her soul mate. She didn’t even say that she was sorry – just that she had to do this for herself “
    Alice muttered something under her breath that she didn’t want Bette to catch
    “Where has she gone ?”
    “To HER place for a few days -so I guess she will still want to access to Angie. But the long-term plan is New York “
    “How did she take Angie not wanting to go “
    Bette rubbed her tears “Oh that was when it really got personal and vicious and awful. She accused me of turning Angie against her – it was messy. She just assumed that Angie would go with her “
    “And she seems determined not to “
    Bette tried to dry her eyes on a tissue but just started weeping again. Alice leap up and sitting on the arm of the chair she pulled Bette into a bear hug.
    “I am so sorry Bette – I know how much you have always loved her – worshipped her “
    “I still love her – if she waked back in through that door and said she had changed her mind I would take her back – you know that “
    “I do – I know how you feel Bette – how you have always felt “
    “Angie has been so amazing “
    “Well you have raised one heck of a warrior in Angelica “
    “Tina isn’t going to let her stay “
    “She is old enough to make her own mind up – you are the injured party – she cannot accuse you of infidelity or cruelty – she shagged someone else. “
    “I spoke to a lawyer and she says that we will probably get joint custody – probably means that if Angie stays – and she has just started her very expensive new school – she would go to Tina for holidays “
    “Has her new playmate got kids ?”
    “I don’t think so “
    “Well I hope she is prepared for what a nightmare pain in the ass your daughter is going to be when she meets her “
    “I know “
    “Do you want anything ?”
    “My wife back “
    1. Yeah, yeah. lets all blame Tina. When Bette cheated – lets understand and forgive, and even find some excuse for her, like someone tried after s1 TLW – how she was miserable and not got any attention from Tina (hmm, forget that Tina just have miscarriage, yeah). And mostly they forgot how Bette sometime treat with Tina like a servant, how she dismissed her in front of her father, how even before miscarriage she asked herself – if she fallen out love with Tina.
      Yeah, Bette we all can forgive.
      But when Tina left her in s3 – she’s traitor, not excuse. Lets even in fanfic paired Bette with someone else, they all better for her, that this traitor.
    2. Hi allyemmerson,
      Good to see you back!
      My heart broke to ???????????? when i read in previews that Tina left Bette and broke again reading this short story. I don’t know if this was a one time story, but i must admit that i will only read Tibette stories with a happy Tibette ending.
      Happy Boxing Day!
    3. You always were brave in your writing, and you continue to be by writing from a point of view you knew wouldn’t be popular. And, you did such a great job! Thanks Ally…and it’s so great to have you writing L Word fanfic again! :-)
      Now, since we did challenge each other, I guess it’s my turn. Yikes! :-)
    4. This is a well written story…..I am one who believes that breakups are seldom sudden and seldom because someone fell in love with someone else instantaneously and then decided to to leave. It may seem that way to begin with in the first few days or weeks. But when a real examination of the history of the couple is taken, there will always be signs of discord or inattentiveness or the avoidance of the other in the couple. How can Tina say that she was miserable with Bette and not show some signs of being miserable? Happiness which is not real can only be faked but for a short period of time. Then most people do the run, hide and avoidance mode or the argue and antagonism modes. And most of these signs are apparent long before an affair takes place.
      When Bette says we were talking and giving each other time. My question would be what was the depth of your conversations? Did both of you really hear and understand the feelings and emotions which were the support structure of the relationships. If every conversation was about how terrible work is and horrible some person was treating you at work, that may be talking, but its not communicating.
      Another author of this stories said once that in a relationship it’s always harder to be present, to commit and to stand and fight for a relationship. Running and seeking alternatives is always an easier solution. And to sustain any relationship, it takes both parties to want the relationship and to work at it or it is doomed to failure. In this story, if Tina has decided that she no longer wants the relationship with Bette then there is no chance for reconciliation. The only reason they were able to come back together in the past was because they both wanted their relationship and they were willing to make changes in their behaviors to make that happen. But if Tina has decided that the relationship with Bette cost more than the benefits she receives or she’s tired of making an effort or she simply would rather have someone else, then there is no hope. That is why the divorce rate is 50% in the US and higher than that in the United Kingdom. It’s easier to give up than to stay and fight.
      We really know little about what has happened here with Tina and Bette. We know little of what really has been going on for the previous months and years in their relationship. I do not think we have near enough information to affix blame one way or another. Yes, having an affair is detrimental to a relationship, but usually it reflects a failure on both parties to deal with each other as to the other problems going on in the relationship in an honest and forthright manner as problems, hurts and fears arise.
    5. So great to read another story from you. This was definitely a sad one. I hope to see more stories from you in the future. Still have my fingers crossed you will finish the L wing.
    6. Great to see that you are back, Ally! But I have to admit that I didn’t read your comeback story. I simply can’t bare to read any story with either Tina or Bette cheating on the other (or falling out of love) without a chance of reconsiliation.
      I sure though that I’m not the only one who would be excited if you’d pick up writing Tibette stories again. Well, stories without the cheating or final separation part ;-)
    7. Hi Ally,
      Great to read a story by you again despite the reasons.
      Not happy that Tibette split in the new Show and will remain reading their stories on this Site.
      Happy New Year, off to read Seahurst.
      BTW would always like to read an L Wing continuance:-)
