“Yes. Barbara is the official head of the foundation. I wanted to remain anonymous. I still do.”

“Oh my God! The Grisham foundation! I love them. I donate money all the time. They’re my favorite charity.”

“Well, on behalf of our foundation, I thank you.” Bette smiles, her eyes lit with pride.

“So you do understand why I didn’t want to tell you at the restaurant. Why I couldn’t. I would have had to tell them everything.”

“Yes. I understand. I should have…well.” Tina moves to sit next to her. She looks into her warm eyes and takes her hand. She plays nervously with Bette’s long delicate fingers.

“I’m so sorry for everything. I want you back, baby. I know I have so much work to do but I will never give you up. We can take things slow. We can start over. I will win your heart again. I will win your trust again.” Tina adds with a confident smile.

“Tina wait. There’s something else I have to tell you. I hope it doesn’t change anything but no more secrets, right?”

“Bette. It won’t change a thing. I trust you.” Tina says with all her heart. She smiles when she realizes she actually means it.

“I…This…Here…This is my island.” Bette says shyly.

“Actually, it’s our island. It will always be our island. It’s our magical, beautiful island.” Tina grins happily.

“Well yes, eventually. I mean, it is our magical island. But this is my island…I own this island… It’s mine…I bought it…myself…” Bette continues as Tina looks back at her blankly, her eyes blinking rapidly.

“Tina? Are you okay?” Bette touches her cheek, breaking her out of her shock.

“Bette? You’re kidding me, right? I mean can people actually own an island?” Tina shakes her head in disbelief.

“I bought it three years ago. I used my parent’s inheritance. I wanted to build a shelter here. You know the ultimate in protection. It started as a refuge for a handful of women who had had enough abuse and misery from an unforgiving society. Together we built the resort and started the business. It’s been amazing. They have rebuilt their lives here. They have regained their confidence. It’s been really good for them, for all of us, emotionally and businesswise as well.” Bette stops to take a breath. She realizes she’s been rambling and Tina is just staring.
