Chapter 28 Two years after the mess
“Are you ready, baby?”
“Yeah…just a sec.”
Bette walks out to the dining room, wearing her new uniform.
“How do I look?” Bette asks.
“Come on, Can…give me some practical opinion.”
“I am…Still the same answer.”
The other brunette, Candace Jewell, smiles at her girlfriend, who’s now walking around the house like walking on the fashion show.
“I feel like a robot.”
“You have to relax a bit, don’t be so intense.” Candace says.
Bette makes a small smile.
Candace pecks lightly on Bette’s lips, and walks back to the bedroom to change.
Bette looks at herself in the mirror.
“You know, I thought today is your day, why should I dress up like it was me going to have a promotion?”
“Because you are the new captain’s girlfriend, that’s why.” Candace yells out from the room.
“Honey…” Bette sighs. “You know I am not a person who likes high profile…”
“But I like it,” Candace pouts, she walks out of the room. “Please, baby, will you do it for me?”
The detective looks at her girlfriend’s expecting eyes, she nods eventually, even if she dislikes those kinds of occasion, she feels the need to continue socializing.
Candace kisses Bette excitedly, then she happily runs back to their bedroom to prepare.
Bette takes a last look at herself in the mirror, the uniform somehow makes her feel stressful, like a load of pressure pouring on her.
“Looking good, huh?”
She turns her head, sees Dana leaning on the doorframe.
“Hey, Dane.” Bette smiles.
“Hey…sorry I just let myself in, the door isn’t locked.”
“No, no, it’s fine, I didn’t lock it because I don’t think the haters will dare to break into the detective and the soon-to-be captain’s house.”
Dana laughs. “So true.”
“Honey? Who is it?” Candace yells from the room.
“It’s Dana!” Bette shouts back, Dana smirks.
“Say hi for me!”
“Will do.” Bette arcs her eyebrows.
Dana giggles. “How cute.”
“How’re others?” Bette avoids the command, keeping adjusting her suit.
“As usual, no big changes…” The athlete shrugs. “Alice was as noisy as always…Lara was busying at her kitchen career, while also helping Kit for the Planet.”
Dana walks to the brunette, offering her a warm embrace.
