Chapter 40 Engage
California, LA. Dana’s place.
“She will be alright.”
The doctor takes off her stethoscope, taking a look at the blonde who’s now sleeping, she writes something down on her notes.
“I will write a prescription to her, with a few days of rest, she will soon feel better.”
“Dr. Wilson, what happened to her?” Bette asks worryingly.
“Crushing down, she’s too tired and carried too much stress, due to the unexpected low temperature in the winter this year, her body cannot tolerate the cold.” Dr. Wilson takes off her glasses. “I suggest, no more work and no outdoor event, she needs to rest. I’ve seen dozens of people whose bodies were weak in her age, but not this, I assume she did drug before, didn’t she?”
Bette Porter is standing next to the bed where Tina is lying on, holding her lover’s hand, she doesn’t know how to answer her question.
Doctor Wilson smiles.
“It’s fine, dear, I knew the answer already. Don’t worry, to keep the patient’s secret is the professional ethics of being a doctor, I won’t say a thing.”
Bette lets out a relieved sigh. “Thank you, doc.”
“Not a problem,” Dr. Wilson starts to pack up her tools. “She’s a good girl, but also very vulnerable, protect her, Bette.”
“I’m sure I will, doc.”
“She will need healthy food, she’s too thin, need to eat more nutritive food, especially fruit and vegetables. I will come and check on her next week, during these times, if there is anything wrong, don’t hesitate to call me.”
Walking Dr. Wilson out of the house, Dana walks beside Bette.
“How’s she doing?” The athlete asks.
“Still hanging there…” Bette replies in a weird sound as if there’s a lump in her throat.
Hearing this, Dana pats on Bette’s back. “She will be alright, Dr. Wilson is very good.”
“Yes, I can see it.” The detective makes a weak smile.
“It’s just…” Bette sniffs. “She’s always hanging there, how couldn’t I see it?”
“You are worried about your friend, Bette, you are an ordinary human, you can only do one thing at a time, and Shane did need you.”
“I just hope that I can do better, Dane, I was never a good daughter, a good friend or a good spy, and now, I couldn’t even take care of the only woman I love.”
