    The Nightmare

    “You okay?” Bette asked.

Tina looked into Bette’s eyes and then rolled onto her back untangling their limbs. Bette studied Tina’s profile and wrinkled her forehead. She rolled onto her back as well. They both stared at the ceiling.

“How long were you watching me sleep?” Tina asked.

    “Not long,” Bette lied.

Tina turned her head towards Bette. She studied her profile and wrinkled her forehead.

“JAMES!” Bette shouted from her office.

    “JAAAMES!”

“Yes, Bette,” James said out of breath.

He was down the hall when Bette summoned him.

“What the fuck took you so long?”

    “Sorry. I was…um…sorry.”

Bette had been in a mood all morning. James was worried. He thought things were getting better between her and Tina. But Bette’s funk had Tina written all over it.

    “Where’s KiKi’s proposal!”

James looked at Bette’s desk. The proposal was on top of a stack of files.

    “Um. It’s…”

James fumbled around on Bette’s desk. The folder was in plain sight but he had no desire to make Bette look foolish.

“Um…it’s…it’s…here…um…here it is,” James finally said.

He handed her the folder clearly labeled KiKi Smith Proposal. Bette stared at James and looked down at the portfolio in his hand.

    She exhaled.

“Thank you,” Bette said a little softer.

    James nodded.

    “You sent this to KiKi?”

James knew Bette knew he had already sent the proposal to KiKi. There was something going on with her today. So, he played the game.

“I did. And she sent back revisions.”

    “Revisions? What revisions?”

“Minor ones. The copy in your hand has been updated.”

Bette flipped through it. Turning to the pages that had the colored arrow flags where James had highlighted the changes for Bette to review. Bette looked back up at James.

    “I’ll review this now.”

James nodded. Bette turned her attention back to the proposal. James pulled out his phone as he exited quickly and quietly.

“Tell me. Tell me. Tell me,” Alice screeched as soon as Tina sat down.

    “Tell you what, Al.”

Alice threw her hands up in exasperation.

    “Don’t fuck with me, Tee-naaa!”

Tina smirked and rolled her eyes.

“Tell me about your date. Don’t leave anything out,” Alice said as she lifted her eyebrows up and down.

“Can I get a cup of coffee first?”

    1. So good to see a update on this absolutely brilliant written story!

I’m glad they have Julia as therapist, honest and not afraid to tell some truths.

I have the faith they will reunite, stronger than ever but the path leading to that is full of bumps on the road.
