    The Nightmare

“She’s been staring at KiKi’s painting for a while now.”

    Tina nodded.

    “Thank you.”

James nodded with a sheepish grin. Tina took two steps forward before she looked back over her shoulder.

    “Hey, James…”

    “Yeah?”

“Hopefully, this won’t happen again. But if it does, please call me first.”

    James nodded again.

    “Thank you.”

Tina took a deep breath and made her way to the woman she loved with her whole heart.

When Tina turned the corner, she gasped at the sight of Bette. She still took her breath away. She was wearing a fitted black skirt and a royal blue ruffled blouse. Bette’s left hand was on her hip and her head was bowed. Her hair draped over her shoulders. Tina watched her for three heartbeats before she mustered up the courage to approach her. Bette felt Tina immediately.

The brunette lifted her head and exhaled.

“Hey,” Tina said as she stood next to Bette.

    One heartbeat.

    Two heartbeats.

“Hey,” Bette finally responded. Her attention still focused on the painting.

Tina stared at Bette’s profile. Tina bit her lip and turned her focus to KiKi’s masterpiece.

“She is so talented,” Tina said.

    “She really is,” Bette responded.

    One heartbeat.

    Two heartbeats.

    Three heartbeats.

    Four heartbeats.

    Five heartbeats.

“I still can’t believe this is based on us.”

Tina was in awe of the details of the painting.

“I assume James called you,” Bette said flatly.

    “No.”

Bette turned to look at the small blonde next to her with her eyebrows raised. Tina knew that look had many layers.

“He reached out to Alice. I was with her at The Planet.”

    Bette nodded.

    “You okay?”

    “Peachy.”

    “Bette…”

    Bette exhaled.

“Is there a reason I shouldn’t be okay?” Bette retorted.

    One heartbeat.

    Two heartbeats.

    Tina took a deep breath.

“Maybe we should wait to discuss it in our session with Julia today.”

“Maybe we should,” Bette looked at Tina.

    Shit, Tina thought.

“Let’s jump right in. It feels like you both have a lot on your minds.”

Bette’s arms were folded across her chest. Tina was playing with her hands in her lap.

    “Did you do your homework?”

    “Yes,” they responded simultaneously.

“This is like deja vu. Are we going to start every session like this?”

    1. So good to see a update on this absolutely brilliant written story!

I’m glad they have Julia as therapist, honest and not afraid to tell some truths.

I have the faith they will reunite, stronger than ever but the path leading to that is full of bumps on the road.
