Kate was looking directly at Tina as she spoke and of course all eyes in the room turned her way. The blonde sat stoic not giving anything away in her expression or body language. She kept hold of Bette’s hand to anchor. She could tell that Kate hadn’t expected the beautiful mocha brunette’s imposing presence at Tina’s side this evening and Tina used it to her advantage. She was done playing Kate’s games but she had to be careful of her next move. William was the wild card in all this and she had yet to know his game or what he knew. Obviously from the endorsement he just gave Kate he must know nothing of the theft or else he was in on it too.
It would have been easy enough to stand up and call Kate’s bluff as this whole performance was a farce. All she had to do was get up on the stage and make it known to the entire audience including William that the film had been stolen and that Kate and an accomplice whom they had already identified were the culprits. But that would only serve to make a spectacle of herself and without proof some might believe that Tina was just being vengeful and had made good on her threat not to have the film released. To add insult to injury it appeared that Kate had also made her new deals with Skyline Studios by stealing two of Tina’s best screenwriters and taking with them the project they’d been working on together for the past three years. Martina’s and Susan’s script was to be the next big release for Shaolin-Peabody after Les Girls. Tina was fuming on the inside and didn’t think she could sit there any longer without imploding.
“Babe I need some air.” Tina addressed Bette and stood up from the table. Bette stood as well. “I’ll come with you.” The couple politely bid goodnight to Niki, Tim, Julie and Greg and promised to get in touch once they were all back in Los Angeles. They told Sam and Sally that they may see them later at the party but if not they would catch up tomorrow. Bette handed Tina her purse, clutched her own and wrapped her arms around Tina’s waist pulling her close and kissing her temple. As they approached the doorway Bette made eye contact with a strikingly beautiful African American woman that was standing at the back of the room. She was dressed in evening attire and blended in as one of the guests. Bette had even noticed her earlier sitting down to dinner with one of the ensemble actresses from the movie. They nodded at each other almost imperceptibly but it was an acknowledgment. The woman’s name was Tasha Williams and she was one of Trevor’s security detail assigned to follow Kate Arden. Now that she’d surfaced they were not about to lose track of her again.
