“Sweetie, what’s wrong?” Bette whispered trying not to attract any attention from the others at the table.
“I’ll tell you later.” Tina answered with clenched lips and turned her attention back to William.
“So without further ado I would like to turn the mic over to a person who I’ve recently come to know and admire. Without her ‘The Girls’ would not be the success that I know it’s going to be, especially now that she’s given me the great news.”
“What news?” Tina heard Sally ask to no one in particular. She herself couldn’t imagine what news Kate could have given William that could be categorized as ‘great’ or could possibly contribute to the success of the movie since they didn’t have a movie. She listened intently as William continued. It appeared that Aaron had kept his word and William had no clue about the missing film but why were Martina and Susan sitting at his table at what had Kate told him?
“I admit I was a bit skeptical about the new ending and changing the title from Lez Girls to The Girls but Kate and Aaron convinced me that it was the right move. It required more investment on my part but it’s only money and I trust I’ll have a better return now that Kate has heard from the marketers personally that the new ending tested through the roof. Just hours after we wrapped we were picked up for distribution ….”
William again paused for effect – this time waiting for the applause to die down then start up again with a standing ovation when he pumped his fist and yelled “We have a MAJOR distributor people and all thanks to Kate Arden and her vision. Please raise your glasses to the newest rising star. Now that she’s made her mark in Hollywood she’s headed to New York where she’s signed a three picture deal with Skyline Studios. Let’s give it up for Kate Arden.”
Applauds continued around the room as Kate took the stage. Even Aaron stood up but it didn’t go unnoticed that Bette, Tina, Sam, and Sally had not joined in. Instead they were giving each other the ‘what the fuck’ ‘can you believe this bullshit’ look. Could Eric have stolen the film just as a ploy? As far as they knew there was no footage to screen for the marketers so how the hell did Kate get them to test it and make a decision for a MAJOR distributor to pick them up less than 16 hours after they wrapped the movie?
