At barely 5’ 4” William was just about two inches taller than Kate but he had a booming voice and appeared bigger than life on that stage. He gave Kate a tight hug and moved aside to give her the floor. She kissed William on the cheek as he handed her the mic.
“Thank you William.” Kate deliberately turned to face Tina’s direction before she continued. “I don’t deserve those accolades but I do want to mention that the first picture in that deal with Skyline is a script written by Martina Lucas and Susan Cavanaugh two of the most talented screenwriters in Hollywood. They’ve agreed to come with me to New York and that’s really what sealed the deal, but we’ll hear more about that later.
I want to talk about why we’re here tonight and it’s to celebrate the soon to be released blockbuster ‘The Girls’ and believe me William you will get a MAJOR return on your investment. “Lez Girls” was good for a little girl on girl action mainstream niche movie that might have appealed to a limited audience and maybe inspired that little gay girl in the mid-west that was struggling with her sexuality but that’s not the stuff of a box office hit. “The Girls” still has all that but it’s not just a gay movie and we didn’t want to promote it on that platform. The new ending will appeal to a larger audience. It’s a movie for everybody and everyone in America will want to pay to see it. I’ve got a few successes under my belt and I know my audience but I can’t take all the credit. I’ve learned a lot in the making of this movie from the likes of William and Aaron and Sam Makavejev and the wonderful actors. Of course our Executive Producer Tina Kennard and I didn’t always see eye to eye and she was adamantly against the changes. She even threatened that our movie wouldn’t get a release if she didn’t get her way. It was for that reason that I personally went after the distributors and we have their backing. I realize that the movie is out of my hands now but I hope that those people entrusted with this responsibility will honor it.
