    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 62

Not knowing how else to express her gratitude, Beverly had enveloped Tina in a warm hug before leading the way into her tidy little home. They walked past a weary brown couch, down a short hall and into a small room with pink walls, pink curtains, and a twin bed.

Courtney’s eyes lit up when she saw Tina and the little girl raced across the carpet, her little arms grabbing Tina tightly.

Tina was just the elixir Courtney’s tongue needed and the little girl finally opened up and told her former tutor about the hell she’d endured. Beverly phoned the detective who came to the house and took her statement and when it was all over, Courtney attached herself to Tina’s hip and the three of them: Mother, Daughter, and Tina moved out to the weathered brown couch and had a seat.

They shared small talk and with her head leaning against Tina’s side, Courtney fell asleep. Finally feeling at ease and contented in this moment.

Beverly’s dark eyes looked down at her sleeping only child and she sighed. "Can I get you something to drink? Something to eat? I just made a pitcher of lemonade this morning."

Tina smiled. "I’d like that. Thank you."

    "Coming right up."

Beverly returned with a glass of cool lemonade and handed it to Tina before sitting opposite her in an easy chair.

"She really looks up to you," said Beverly.

    Tina smiled softly.

"The therapist told me that she’s been so focused on you because you provide a sense of comfort. You were her protection. At least in her mind. I was the one that kept pushing her to like that boy. I thought she was just being difficult. Didn’t realize what was really going on. And in her life right now, it’s just me and her."

Tina took a sip of her lemonade. "This is good," she replied.

"My mama’s recipe. I add a little lime juice. Nice little touch," Beverly said.

"What happened to her father?" asked Tina.

Beverly smiled. "He’s in the army. In Iraq. He’s been gone about 6 months." The smile faded. "I haven’t had the heart to tell him what’s happened. I don’t want to mess with his head while he’s over there. Antoine and Courtney is all I got."

    1. I know one thing Tina should NOT do to make it up to Bette. She shouldn’t sing “Chocolate Rain.” Well, maybe if she sings it while naked and sexy on Bette’s bed it will work.

    2. Thanks for writing it, MTS. And imo, your Tina doesn’t need to apologise – she left Bette that message: ‘Bette. Hey Babe. Please don’t be upset with me. I want so much to be there right now, but an emergency just came up. It’s Courtney. Her mom just called me and I really need to go..’ – ‘Her’ kid was hurt, molested, and Bette would remember how much that little girl meant to Tina. And your Bette isn’t an insensitive clod: she’d know that kids in pain take precedence, especially in a case like this. – “Tina was just the elixir Courtney’s tongue needed and the little girl finally opened up and told her former tutor about the hell she’d endured. Beverly phoned the detective who came to the house and took her statement…”All very sad. So why would Bette think a student election outcome was more important than the mental health of a child? (After all, a kid like that, forced by her mother to keep being babysat by her molester, would still be carrying psychological scars long after a schooltime election was forgotten.)

    3. Gosh!! I am so glad they are still whispering. Was so ready for Bette and Tina to talk, but I definitely enjoyed this chapter between Tina and Courtney’s mother. Loved that Tina finally admitted her true feelings. Looking forward to see how Tina makes it up to Bette! PPS!!!

    4. Man, I am so much like Tina. Running away from my true self, just wanting to alone without the pressure from the outside world. I hope that Bette can understand Tina’s fear, and that Tina can understand Bette’s need to be the vice president of the group.

    5. Hey MTS, Thank you for another fine and thought provoking chapter. I fully believe that when you get people talking that all the differentness disapates and understanding and acceptance flourish. Suddenly we find the common ground you share. Good to see that Beverly was able to admit her ignorance after Tina’s help and concern for Courtney. I do think that Tina did the rgith thing as a child was suffering and needs reassurance straight away, evry minute let alone hour counts. Now I can’t wait to see how Tina wins back Bette and faces the reality of her sexual preference. Bring it on. Again it is your talent that makes this so wonderful to read. Thank you, Your Loyal Fan.

    6. I’m glad Tina was able to help Courtney. Tina really needs to make it up to Bette and with Bev’s help I’m sure she will this is a no Sydney zone so please let T come to grips with who she is and stop hiding. She should just love Bette with all her heart and take care of everything else as it comes. PPS

    7. T will make it right and Bette no matter how hurt, will always forgive Tina. However, Tina needs to become more comfortable with who she is and stop trying to hide out. There are too many women out there will to take her place, with Sydney being on the top of the list. Thanks for the post.

    8. tina really does need to have a long talk with herself and get it together. i do know how hard that is being raised the way i was and just coming out at the tender age of 49 with 4 kids. but… i cant believe the happiness and freedom i now feel. bette, hopefully will be patient. thanks.
