    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 62

    Tina sipped her drink.

"You know, thinking I needed to protect her from you…..that came from my family. My father. I’ve made so many mistakes in my life, I’m always just trying to do the right thing. I had her so young and I barely made it out of high school. I’m trying to do right by her. And then when I saw you kissing your friend, I thought I was doing the right thing. That was so dumb. So dumb. Growing up, Daddy really hates gay people. Preached about the ills of being gay from time to time. How they were destroying the community. How AIDS came to wipe them out. That seems so misguided now. You more like an angel than any demon I ever met."

Tina nodded. "I understand the thinking. That’s how my father is. If my family finds out about me, they’ll disown me too."

    "You really think so?"

    "I know so."

Beverly smiled. "We’re not that much different."

"Not at all. And I didn’t intend to fall in love with Bette, but I did."

    "That’s your girlfriend?"

"Yeah. I had a boyfriend when I first came to school. Then, I just fell for her."

"Can I ask you a question?" asked Beverly.

    "Sure."
    "Your girlfriend…..is she black?"

"Well, she’s biracial. Her father’s black. Her mother’s white."

Beverly replied, "So what would make your parents more upset? The half black thing or the dating another female thing?"

    "No question….dating another female."

"You ever get scared?" she asked.

Tina sipped again and replied, "Just about every day. You?"

"I’m so scared I haven’t slept well in years. Scared I’m gonna mess up Courtney’s life like I did my own. I’m scared I’m going to get a phone call that Antoine’s been hurt or killed. Now I’m scared to death of someone else hurting my baby. All kinds of worries play with my mind."

    "Your husband’s doing okay?"

"So far so good. He joined up with the service as soon as he was old enough. He wanted to be responsible and take care of us. He’s always been good that way. Better than most guys his age."

    1. I know one thing Tina should NOT do to make it up to Bette. She shouldn’t sing “Chocolate Rain.” Well, maybe if she sings it while naked and sexy on Bette’s bed it will work.

    2. Thanks for writing it, MTS. And imo, your Tina doesn’t need to apologise – she left Bette that message: ‘Bette. Hey Babe. Please don’t be upset with me. I want so much to be there right now, but an emergency just came up. It’s Courtney. Her mom just called me and I really need to go..’ – ‘Her’ kid was hurt, molested, and Bette would remember how much that little girl meant to Tina. And your Bette isn’t an insensitive clod: she’d know that kids in pain take precedence, especially in a case like this. – “Tina was just the elixir Courtney’s tongue needed and the little girl finally opened up and told her former tutor about the hell she’d endured. Beverly phoned the detective who came to the house and took her statement…”All very sad. So why would Bette think a student election outcome was more important than the mental health of a child? (After all, a kid like that, forced by her mother to keep being babysat by her molester, would still be carrying psychological scars long after a schooltime election was forgotten.)

    3. Gosh!! I am so glad they are still whispering. Was so ready for Bette and Tina to talk, but I definitely enjoyed this chapter between Tina and Courtney’s mother. Loved that Tina finally admitted her true feelings. Looking forward to see how Tina makes it up to Bette! PPS!!!

    4. Man, I am so much like Tina. Running away from my true self, just wanting to alone without the pressure from the outside world. I hope that Bette can understand Tina’s fear, and that Tina can understand Bette’s need to be the vice president of the group.

    5. Hey MTS, Thank you for another fine and thought provoking chapter. I fully believe that when you get people talking that all the differentness disapates and understanding and acceptance flourish. Suddenly we find the common ground you share. Good to see that Beverly was able to admit her ignorance after Tina’s help and concern for Courtney. I do think that Tina did the rgith thing as a child was suffering and needs reassurance straight away, evry minute let alone hour counts. Now I can’t wait to see how Tina wins back Bette and faces the reality of her sexual preference. Bring it on. Again it is your talent that makes this so wonderful to read. Thank you, Your Loyal Fan.

    6. I’m glad Tina was able to help Courtney. Tina really needs to make it up to Bette and with Bev’s help I’m sure she will this is a no Sydney zone so please let T come to grips with who she is and stop hiding. She should just love Bette with all her heart and take care of everything else as it comes. PPS

    7. T will make it right and Bette no matter how hurt, will always forgive Tina. However, Tina needs to become more comfortable with who she is and stop trying to hide out. There are too many women out there will to take her place, with Sydney being on the top of the list. Thanks for the post.

    8. tina really does need to have a long talk with herself and get it together. i do know how hard that is being raised the way i was and just coming out at the tender age of 49 with 4 kids. but… i cant believe the happiness and freedom i now feel. bette, hopefully will be patient. thanks.
