    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 62

    Tina smiled. "You were lucky."

Beverly shook her head slightly. "Nah. Not lucky. Blessed. Just like I was blessed that you came into Courtney’s life. Thank you."

Tina sighed. "No thanks needed. I love tutoring. I love kids."

"You gonna have some one day?"

"I hope so. I’d like to at least."

"Well then, it’ll happen for you. But don’t rush. Take your time."

Tina smiled. "Well, the way I’d have to have kids….getting sperm or adopting…I’m pretty sure I’ll have to wait."

Beverly chuckled. "That’s right. Well that sounds pretty good to me. Gives you time to grow up."

"It does. I’m still trying to cope with it. Still trying to figure out how to love my girlfriend and not be hated by the rest of the world."

    "You love her, huh?"

Tina’s eyes lit up and a smile touched her soul. "I do. It’s scary intense, but I do."

    "How did you meet her?"

"She just sort of showed up. She’s my roommate at school."

    Beverly smiled. "That’s pretty convenient."

"It is. I just still have my own struggles. And today was an important day for her. They were having elections for our school’s Queer Alliance."

    "Queer Alliance?" asked Beverly.

"It’s like the gay group. They have events, try to help the community. That sort of thing."

    "Oh, okay."

"And Bette was running for Vice-President."

"Man. Did she win?" asked Beverly.

"I don’t even know. I forgot to ask her."

Beverly winced. "You forgot to ask her?"

"Oh no. Why did you say it like that?"

"Well, if I was running for an office or something and Antoine didn’t even ask me if I won, I’d be a little upset."

"I didn’t mean to. I just forgot. I was on my way to the meeting when I got your phone call. I just ran out the door and didn’t look back."

"Oh Tina. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to mess up your plans. I almost was hoping to get your answering machine."

Tina replied, "When I heard you mention Courtney, I had to come."

Beverly sighed. "I understand. But maybe you could have come a little bit later. I would have understood. I would have been happy if you’d have come tomorrow or any day. Just as long as I knew you were coming."

Tina looked down at her glass. If she were honest with herself, she’d be willing to admit that she didn’t have to rush right out the door. If she were honest with herself, she’d have admitted that she could have waited for an hour, gone to the meeting and then left after that. The reality of Tina’s world was that she’d needed a reason to miss the meeting. She really didn’t want to go. She didn’t want to sit in a room with reflections of herself and her future and face the reality of her uncomfortable sexual identity. It was easier to live in a world where she wasn’t really gay, but just a woman in love with Bette. She didn’t want a label. She just wanted peace.

Beverly caught the look of sadness that crossed Tina’s warm brown eyes and she said,

"Well, you have to make it up to her. And I feel responsible so I’m gonna help you."

    Tina smiled. "Really?"

    "Yup. Here’s what you do…."

And so both the lesson and a friendship between the worried young mother and the harried young coed began.

    1. I know one thing Tina should NOT do to make it up to Bette. She shouldn’t sing “Chocolate Rain.” Well, maybe if she sings it while naked and sexy on Bette’s bed it will work.

    2. Thanks for writing it, MTS. And imo, your Tina doesn’t need to apologise – she left Bette that message: ‘Bette. Hey Babe. Please don’t be upset with me. I want so much to be there right now, but an emergency just came up. It’s Courtney. Her mom just called me and I really need to go..’ – ‘Her’ kid was hurt, molested, and Bette would remember how much that little girl meant to Tina. And your Bette isn’t an insensitive clod: she’d know that kids in pain take precedence, especially in a case like this. – “Tina was just the elixir Courtney’s tongue needed and the little girl finally opened up and told her former tutor about the hell she’d endured. Beverly phoned the detective who came to the house and took her statement…”All very sad. So why would Bette think a student election outcome was more important than the mental health of a child? (After all, a kid like that, forced by her mother to keep being babysat by her molester, would still be carrying psychological scars long after a schooltime election was forgotten.)

    3. Gosh!! I am so glad they are still whispering. Was so ready for Bette and Tina to talk, but I definitely enjoyed this chapter between Tina and Courtney’s mother. Loved that Tina finally admitted her true feelings. Looking forward to see how Tina makes it up to Bette! PPS!!!

    4. Man, I am so much like Tina. Running away from my true self, just wanting to alone without the pressure from the outside world. I hope that Bette can understand Tina’s fear, and that Tina can understand Bette’s need to be the vice president of the group.

    5. Hey MTS, Thank you for another fine and thought provoking chapter. I fully believe that when you get people talking that all the differentness disapates and understanding and acceptance flourish. Suddenly we find the common ground you share. Good to see that Beverly was able to admit her ignorance after Tina’s help and concern for Courtney. I do think that Tina did the rgith thing as a child was suffering and needs reassurance straight away, evry minute let alone hour counts. Now I can’t wait to see how Tina wins back Bette and faces the reality of her sexual preference. Bring it on. Again it is your talent that makes this so wonderful to read. Thank you, Your Loyal Fan.

    6. I’m glad Tina was able to help Courtney. Tina really needs to make it up to Bette and with Bev’s help I’m sure she will this is a no Sydney zone so please let T come to grips with who she is and stop hiding. She should just love Bette with all her heart and take care of everything else as it comes. PPS

    7. T will make it right and Bette no matter how hurt, will always forgive Tina. However, Tina needs to become more comfortable with who she is and stop trying to hide out. There are too many women out there will to take her place, with Sydney being on the top of the list. Thanks for the post.

    8. tina really does need to have a long talk with herself and get it together. i do know how hard that is being raised the way i was and just coming out at the tender age of 49 with 4 kids. but… i cant believe the happiness and freedom i now feel. bette, hopefully will be patient. thanks.
