The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 38

Bette’s eyes shot nearly lethal daggers at the woman before her. “Tell me something, Christina. Who’s Henry?”

    Tina’s face flushed with embarrassment.

Bette gestured toward the wedding photo. “I mean, that’s him, right? He looks just like the guy who thanked you tonight. The guy that referred to you as his wife. The one you fucking kissed. That guy. That’s where I saw you.”

“Peggy’s party,” Tina whispered, finally understanding.

“Where are we, Christina?” asked Bette. “What city and country would you say we were in?”

Tina looked at her with confusion.

“I mean, you did tell me you were going out of town. This seems like it’s in-town to me. But maybe I’m just a fucking idiot. You obviously think I’m a fucking fool.”

Tina moved closer yet again, but Bette moved further away.

“Don’t you dare touch me! You are a big fucking liar. I don’t even know who you are. I can’t believe you’d lie to me.”

Tina tried to respond, “Bette, please – – -.”

Bette looked disgusted, as though she had a bad taste in her mouth and wanted to spit. She kept seeing Tina kissing him. “Please what? He’s your husband, right?”

Tina looked down, her face flushed, tears streaming from her eyes. Her head was bent.

“Henry, right? The husband that lives with you, here in this house…a house I never even knew you had! A place I’ve never even been invited to visit! But you told me you loved me. What a bunch of bullshit!” Bette yelled.

Tina looked up, jumping slightly at the sound of Bette’s angry voice. “Please, Bette.”

    “Please Bette what?”

Tina wiped at her tears. “Let me explain.”

Bette surprised her then, she stopped talking and stood quietly with her arms folded across her chest. She gazed at Tina with a look that spoke of all-knowing clarity. “Okay,” said Bette.

    “Okay what?” asked Tina.

Bette spoke through gritted teeth. “Explain, Christina. Tell me you’re separated. Tell me you’re really divorced. Tell me you didn’t lie to me from the moment we met.”

Tina sighed, tears streaming from her eyes. “Bette. I couldn’t tell you. I was handling it! You don’t understand.”

    1. That was hard to read. I had to stop myself from skimming through the words because I didn’t want to know about the confrontation, the fight, the desperation.
You did good even if I don’t like it. Bette’s bodily reaction is very authentic to me. Felt like vomiting when my gf broke up with me – yes, I admit, I’m a very peace-loving person and not that good at conflicts.

I just hope that Tina will press on with her plans, more motivated than ever. And Bette could need a talk to Dana, maybe she is still around when Carmen leaves for NYC again. I’m afraid that it would get worse if Alice got wind of the situation.

I’m going to pull a “Bette Porter” now and go looking for a bottle of red wine, it’s dinner time over here after all ;-)

Thanks for the update, Mts, can’t wait for more.

    2. Ok I’m all caught up wow what a ride that was.. I’m glad Bette has Carmen even though shes only there for a short time she is there at a very important time. Alice is the chosen one lol.. that in its self is funny. She does try but would do better with all the info on Bette’s enter demons. This last part was heavy but much needed Bette needed to voice her hurt. But Tina now needs to find her voice. Her voice for her own life to her father and Henry.. they have her in a type of slavery, and she needs her voice to tell Bette everything. Great last 3 post thank you well done.

    3. Wow, this is heartbreaking drama in all caps, as in D.R.A.M.A. And you’re telling us, MTS, to wait, there’s even more(!) to come with a smile emoji? Holy sh*t! ????????????

I remember reading the unfinished “The Roommates” story many, many years ago. How Bette was torn between her girlfriend Tina and artist friend Sydney. I still don’t understand how Bette was “transported” from 2005 to 2019 in a flash but this present dimension is starkly darker, far messier and much more convoluted than the first version. I don’t know where this is going. I don’t like that Tina has been lying to Bette. I’m not even sure if they’ll end up together when all is said and done (I distinctly remember you wrote a HeleBette story before that started out as a TiBette story, right?) but for now, I’m hooked and really curious what happens next. Many thanks for taking time to write and sharing this well-written story, MTS.???? Please keep on writing and we’ll keep on reading!????

    4. Okay, wow!
Moving us along with a few tantalising pages at a time!

Where’s Henry? Can he hear the argument?

You have to post again soon and put us out of our misery!

      I hate Cliffhangers:-(.

    5. These last two chapters are not what I expected….what a shock. Bette’s only option was what she did. Tina could have said nothing that would have made a difference to Bette at this point. Unfortunately, Bette will now sink into a state of depression. She needs her therapist, her sponsor and all her friends to keep her away from alcohol and drugs. Tina is in bad pooh right now…..

Cannot wait to see how this goes…..Thank you for these chapters.
