The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 38

Bette shook her head; her nose was red and tears she didn’t wish to shed slipped from her eyes.
“No, I understand. First Sidney, now you. I don’t know why people like to cheat on me or with me? Is it the sex? Or is it my personality? I don’t know.”
“I’m sorry, Bette.”
The brunette hugged herself tightly, the depth of her sadness seemed to be growing, enveloping her in darkness. She looked down at the ground. “You could have told me. I would have understood. I would have been there for you. I told you the truth from the start. But the lying? I cannot abide the lying.”
Tina moved toward her and Bette stepped away. “How could you do this to me?” she asked, her dark eyes stricken with despair and pain.
Tina gasped; taken aback by the depth of the suffering she’d caused. “I’m sorry, Bette.”
More tears fell and Bette wiped them away. “You have an entire life that I know nothing about.”
Tina tried to funnel her thoughts into a cohesive argument. Into a version of her reality that Bette could comprehend and digest. “Henry is not you. I love you. I love you more than anyone I have ever – – – “
Bette held up her hand. Tina’s words were making her nauseous. “Save it. Just save it.”
She turned to walk away, heading for the front door. “Forget you fucking met me. I never want to see you again.”
“How can you say that?” asked Tina.
“Ask your fucking husband! I don’t even know you! Everything was a lie!”
“No, not everything. I love you, Bette. Please don’t go!”
But Bette was going. She was moving quickly, her heels clicking and clacking across the floor. Tina reached out for her arm and Bette pulled away.
Tina felt her world collapsing around her and yelled. “I never thought you could be real, Bette!”
Bette turned around, glaring at her.
Tina kept talking. Hoping that this was her opening. Hoping she could at least keep Bette from walking through the door. “I thought I could run from it! I thought my attraction to women would fade. I never imagined it could be like it is with you. I didn’t think I’d ever find you.”

Most interesting question for me – where was Henry where they had this confrontation in Tina’s house? How he didn’t listen all this screams from them?
That was hard to read. I had to stop myself from skimming through the words because I didn’t want to know about the confrontation, the fight, the desperation.
You did good even if I don’t like it. Bette’s bodily reaction is very authentic to me. Felt like vomiting when my gf broke up with me – yes, I admit, I’m a very peace-loving person and not that good at conflicts.
I just hope that Tina will press on with her plans, more motivated than ever. And Bette could need a talk to Dana, maybe she is still around when Carmen leaves for NYC again. I’m afraid that it would get worse if Alice got wind of the situation.
I’m going to pull a “Bette Porter” now and go looking for a bottle of red wine, it’s dinner time over here after all ;-)
Thanks for the update, Mts, can’t wait for more.
Ok I’m all caught up wow what a ride that was.. I’m glad Bette has Carmen even though shes only there for a short time she is there at a very important time. Alice is the chosen one lol.. that in its self is funny. She does try but would do better with all the info on Bette’s enter demons. This last part was heavy but much needed Bette needed to voice her hurt. But Tina now needs to find her voice. Her voice for her own life to her father and Henry.. they have her in a type of slavery, and she needs her voice to tell Bette everything. Great last 3 post thank you well done.
Wow, this is heartbreaking drama in all caps, as in D.R.A.M.A. And you’re telling us, MTS, to wait, there’s even more(!) to come with a smile emoji? Holy sh*t! ????????????
I remember reading the unfinished “The Roommates” story many, many years ago. How Bette was torn between her girlfriend Tina and artist friend Sydney. I still don’t understand how Bette was “transported” from 2005 to 2019 in a flash but this present dimension is starkly darker, far messier and much more convoluted than the first version. I don’t know where this is going. I don’t like that Tina has been lying to Bette. I’m not even sure if they’ll end up together when all is said and done (I distinctly remember you wrote a HeleBette story before that started out as a TiBette story, right?) but for now, I’m hooked and really curious what happens next. Many thanks for taking time to write and sharing this well-written story, MTS.???? Please keep on writing and we’ll keep on reading!????
In previous chapter Bette was ready to fuck Carmen and now she asking Tina why all cheating on her? Funny.
Okay, wow!
Moving us along with a few tantalising pages at a time!
Where’s Henry? Can he hear the argument?
You have to post again soon and put us out of our misery!
I hate Cliffhangers:-(.
:-)
SG
I will end one misery for @SassyGran and @Zhenya….He cannot hear them. Remember, she left the party on her own. She didn’t arrive with Henry or leave with Henry. He stayed to get his party on.
These last two chapters are not what I expected….what a shock. Bette’s only option was what she did. Tina could have said nothing that would have made a difference to Bette at this point. Unfortunately, Bette will now sink into a state of depression. She needs her therapist, her sponsor and all her friends to keep her away from alcohol and drugs. Tina is in bad pooh right now…..
Cannot wait to see how this goes…..Thank you for these chapters.
