The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 5

“I will. You know you’re my security guard.”

    “What’s her name?” asked Bette.

“Tasha. She’s beautiful, the strong silent type. Only downside is she’s LAPD. She’s got the most gorgeous skin I’ve ever seen. It’s a beautiful brown, like mahogany.”

The brunette walked into the kitchen. She was starving. The sun had set and it was dark. She flipped lights as she went. There was very little actual food in the refrigerator. Everything was leftovers in takeout boxes and she had no idea of what might be okay to eat.

“Is this your way of telling me she’s black?” asked Bette.

She found a bag of microwave popcorn and started the microwave before heading to find her laptop.

Alice laughed. “Yes. Yes, it is.”

“Sweetie, I know you’re down with the swirl. I know you don’t discriminate. Just please refrain from telling her your best friend is black,” said Bette.

She sat down at the kitchen table, listening for the popcorn. Her laptop came to life just as the popcorn kernels stopped popping.

“This is not my first rodeo,” said Alice.

Bette grabbed her popcorn and dumped it into a large bowl. She grabbed a glass of water and sat back down at the table. She munched a few kernels, her belly rumbling.

“I know. I know you’re very cultured. I’m just giving you a hard time. I miss you, though. Can we have dinner?” asked Bette.

Alice smiled. Bette had been acting very differently since she’d picked her up from the airport. She couldn’t ever remember Bette sounding so warm and loving. Not even when they were in college. Bette had always had a sharp, guarded edge, one that lashed out sometimes if you got to close. Bette was her oldest and best friend, yet sometimes she felt she just couldn’t talk to her.

Bette telling her that she missed her was new. And it was welcomed.

“Hello?” asked Bette, chewing more popcorn and holding the phone between her ear and her shoulder. She opened a web browser and placed an order for a pizza.

“I’m here, Bette. We can definitely have dinner. I’m sorry I haven’t been by more this week. Deadlines have been tight, and people have been bitchy. Maybe we can do Sunday? I’ll text you and you let me know.”

    1. Now, I’m hooked into this story….Bette has yet to realize that getting Tina back is going to take more than a few phone calls. They are both into rather complex lives which will need to be unraveled before they can be together as they were in the previous lives I wonder what Alice thinks of this new Bette?.

    2. Thank you for the new update!

So, Bette has some her memories from this reality back, it’s good. But what strange that she still didn’t ask herself why Tina has different second name.

      Ok, waiting for the next!

    3. Hi MTS:

Wonderful chapter, more information for Bette’s brain, and I see that Tina is very eager to talk and interact with Bette, Maybe she is also the woman of her dreams.

So sad that Dana would, eventually, be gone.

Bette is definitely changing and adapting to her new life, and now with Tina at her side, she may find out why they change into a parallel reality.

Thank you for the chapter, and pps.

    4. Very interesting way to prove that Bette was not dreaming…LOL. Nice chapter, hopefully T + B can speak on the phone undisturbed – meaning, maybe there is no more Eric or anyone to distract Tina from the call.

    5. The whole Bette and Dana conversation about shitting in your dreams had me in stitches. I means tears rolling down my cheeks laughing. This chapter was fun to watch ultra Type A not have a control at all, watching her get irritated and frustrated ready to flop down to die from her mindfuck.

      Brilliant!
