The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 5

    Bette nodded.

“Where do you go when you leave me?” asked Bette.

“It’s a void. I guess its kind of like sleep, but I don’t dream. I just exist. If you aren’t watching me, I just kind of, fade out. I return when I know you’re near. Or when I know you need me.”

“How do you know when I need you?”

Dana shrugged. “I don’t know. I just do. The time in my void passes instantly. I return there and then I come back here. Even if it’s several hours for you, it feels like an instant.”

“Dana, can I ask you something?”

    “Of course. Anything.”

“I could feel myself going through withdrawal last week. My body felt horrible. So, I know I must have been using drugs and drinking. Why can’t I remember using them?” she asked.

Dana thought a moment. “I think you intentionally removed some memories. I also don’t have those memories, so you didn’t offload them. Maybe they were too painful.”

Bette sighed and ran a hand through her thick hair. “I’m glad I don’t remember.”

“Did you stay here with me while I slept?” asked Bette.

Dana nodded. “I did. I just watched tv and watched you sleep. You rested very peacefully.”

Bette closed her eyes against the new memories. In her mind she could see Dana. A Dana that was older and very sick. A Dana that was frail. It was a sharp contrast to the 2005, healthy version of Dana before her.

“I can see what you think. And yes, I was very sick. Me being sick took a big toll on our family. None of you are the same. You all just dealt with it differently,” said Dana.

Bette nodded. “Alice threw herself into her work. She hardly ever stops. Only to sleep. It helps her not to think.”

Dana replied, “Yes. You distanced yourself from everything. Like you closed an emotional door. Whenever it would get hard to do that, you’d get high or drunk. Anything to numb the pain.”

    “And Sidney?” asked Bette.

“She feels very deeply. She was crushed by your emotional distance. By Alice’s retreat into work. She just wanted to feel. Her work is tinged with sadness. The drugs help her feel. You and Sidney have always had a disconnect. But when I got sick – – -,” Dana began.

    1. Now, I’m hooked into this story….Bette has yet to realize that getting Tina back is going to take more than a few phone calls. They are both into rather complex lives which will need to be unraveled before they can be together as they were in the previous lives I wonder what Alice thinks of this new Bette?.

    2. Thank you for the new update!

So, Bette has some her memories from this reality back, it’s good. But what strange that she still didn’t ask herself why Tina has different second name.

      Ok, waiting for the next!

    3. Hi MTS:

Wonderful chapter, more information for Bette’s brain, and I see that Tina is very eager to talk and interact with Bette, Maybe she is also the woman of her dreams.

So sad that Dana would, eventually, be gone.

Bette is definitely changing and adapting to her new life, and now with Tina at her side, she may find out why they change into a parallel reality.

Thank you for the chapter, and pps.

    4. Very interesting way to prove that Bette was not dreaming…LOL. Nice chapter, hopefully T + B can speak on the phone undisturbed – meaning, maybe there is no more Eric or anyone to distract Tina from the call.

    5. The whole Bette and Dana conversation about shitting in your dreams had me in stitches. I means tears rolling down my cheeks laughing. This chapter was fun to watch ultra Type A not have a control at all, watching her get irritated and frustrated ready to flop down to die from her mindfuck.

      Brilliant!
