The Roommates – Fast Forward to 2019: Chapter 6

She was sometimes still called Tina by her parents, but that was rare. They often called her Christina. She’d started going by Chris after graduating from college. Gender-neutral “Chris” had been a lot more successful in snagging production team interviews than “Tina”. Her name had gotten her in the door and her skills had gotten her work. She’d chosen her roles wisely, starting out at smaller production companies where she’d had the chance to wear multiple hats and build her resume. She a home in the Hollywood hills and an apartment in downtown Manhattan. Her professional life had taken off, yet her personal life was filled with emptiness and regret.

When she left Shane, her hair was styled into a classic updo and her nails were neatly manicured. She tipped her stylist well before battling through traffic to pick up clothes at the dry cleaner. Though the weather was cool, her cheeks were flushed, and she wondered just when she’d hear from Bette Porter. She hoped she wasn’t walking into a trap. Bette had appeared and had been so kind and sweet, despite Tina knocking her to the ground and hurting her ankle.

At the dry cleaner, she’d had to fuss at the girl behind the desk. The dress she’d picked out to wear tonight was not in the hanging bag of clothes that were returned to her. She had specifically brought these clothes to the cleaners so that her dress would be ready. She was fuming by the time she left, her ears now red. Fighting traffic again she made it to the mall and madly searched through the homewares section, wondering what to get for her parents. Why the hell she’d waited until the very last minute, she didn’t know. She ended up with a standing glass globe that could hold a decanter and four whiskey glasses and a limited-edition standing mixer that came with an outrageous number of attachments. She had a few expensive bottles of scotch at home. She’d lump one of those in with the rest of it. She paid extra for them to wrap up the gifts and raced to get home.

When Tina pulled into the circular drive, her husband Henry came out, holding his hands in confusion. He was dressed in a tuxedo and dress shoes, minus the bow tie.

    1. Great to get to know this Tina. Learing about her life makes me think that Bette can not only improve the situation of “Bette 2019” but of “Tina 2019” as well.
I love that Tina already feels some kind of connection to Bette.

Looking forward to their breakfast meeting :-)

    2. This 2019 update to RoomMates has been an intriguing saga for sure. I’m trying to fill in the blanks and have come to the conclusion that the young Tina was not able to bring herself to tell her parents about Bette and their relationship. So her life continued along the expected path of hetero script. Right????????. and so did Bette’s as she chose Sidney to marry.

Cant figure out in my tale what happened to Eric though????. In my story he had to have made a play for Tina by threatening to “out” her to her parents but then ????? this is where my 2005 version falls apart. Auh well, that’s why U’re the Author ????and me the neurotic reader ????????????

    3. Uhmm it seem Tina and Henry are playing some kind of charades with the family.. they all seem to be wearing a mask at this party… did get to meet sissy but she must be a pill or knows Tina’s secrets. Great phone call giving Tina a bit of a slow burn, my favorite way to have her in. Lol.. thank you

    4. In 2019, Bette and Tina meet for the first time when they bump into each other on the street. This is not a continuation of 2005 but a completely new reality. Bette has transferred from the 2005 reality to the 2019 reality with the memories of 2005. Its going to make Bette look like a lunatic if she explains how she knows Tina’s nickname or even why she is so attracted to Tina. Her best bet is to face today’s reality and figure out how to get Tina into her life. In the meantime, she is still married and so is Tina. This has become a very intriguing story.

      Good writing….can’t wait for more.
