The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 5

Hence the surprise and uneasiness in David’s dark brown eyes. The woman before him was the type of wife he’d always wanted and as his thoughts tried to fuse themselves together to create a coherent argument for their dissolution, those thoughts went errant and betrayed him.

David rubbed his hand across the stubble of his chin. “I don’t know, Jan.”

Janice took his hand in hers and spoke with more conviction than she’d ever had, “I do know. I love you. And I want you to come home. You and I belong together.”

“What about the boys?” he asked.

“They can visit. They are more than welcome to visit. If we need to get a larger place to accommodate them, then so be it. I want you to have a relationship with them. I know you need them in your life.”

Again, David was lost. Janice had never expressed any interest in his sons before. How could she stand to see David with his children when her own child was lost and motherless with Melvin?

But this was a new day.

This was a new Janice Porter-Schwartz.

“You really want me to come home?” David finally asked.

    “I do.”

    “What about Bette?”

“David, you and Bette will get along just fine. She’s got her own room and she’s working crazy hours at the museum. So there’s more than enough room for everyone to have their own space. She loves me. She really does. And I love her more than I could ever imagine. I want us to be a family.”

David sighed again. “I have to think about this. I wasn’t prepared – – -,” he started.

“You don’t have to be prepared, David. Just please, come home with me.”

And as much as he wanted to resist, David found himself just as powerless as he’d been when their lips met 4 and a half years ago.

After a brief silence, he looked up and met his wife’s eyes. “Let’s go home,” he said.

Bette didn’t feel both sets of eyes on her as David accompanied Janice on her nightly visit to check-in on Bette. The curly-haired woman was sound asleep under her crimson bed covers and this nightly routine of checking on Bette had become something of a calming ritual for Janice. She didn’t have to lay in bed wondering about how her child was faring. Bette was only a few feet away these days. They were no longer separated by thousands of unfriendly miles.

    1. Thanks for the update! Love this! I’m glad to see Janice trying to get her family back together, i just hope Bette doesn’t have a cow and understands. I hope Tina and Bette can connect soon, and that Tina does tell Bette about Eric. Tina wouldn’t get jealous of Damon being able to see Bette would she??

    2. Wow, I didn’t remember Bette’s Mom talking about a husband. Does Bette know??? I am glad they are both doing well in their jobs, but hope that they can connect soon. And Tina better tell Bette because otherwise a bad misunderstanding may be underway.

    3. Good chapter. Hope B&T will connet soon and Tina should tell Bette about eric and hope he not stalker Tina. No drama for B&T please. Please post more, thanks!

    4. What an amazing update! We sooo missed this story! We see some progress in B’s mom’s life, as well as the friends in LA. Schedules in different locations can be VERY frustrating and stressful. Tina needs to be honest with B. It will strengthen their communication and relationship. As for Valerie’s reaction to B’s improvements in her outlook and knowledge, just proves that she’s pleased with how well B took the advice. Thanks for posting. We enjoy so much tiny B and T as they are experiencing new things on their lives. PPS- Lucero & Marsha (From Mexico City)

    5. Tina really should speak to Bette and let her know about Eric, but with the time difference she will just have to do it via E-mail. Tina should also express her love for Bette so she will feel secure and not get all jelous and snippy. PPS

    6. B&T needs to reconnect real soon. I think Tina should tell Bette about Eric’s possible reappearance. At this early stage of their relationship and being 3000 miles away from each other, honesty is a very important factor. Thank you for updating this story, MTS. Beautiful writing as always:)
