The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 5

“Sweetheart, we did try. It didn’t work,” he replied.

“We can go to counseling. I’ll do better. I promise. I know I neglected you. I know that. I’m sorry.”

The crease in David’s forehead grew an inch in length and his eyes expressed his surprise at his wife’s words. He couldn’t speak. There weren’t any appropriate words with which he could respond to Janice.

The teary eyed blonde continued. “I know I let you down. I got so involved in the business I couldn’t see straight. But I get it. I’m sorry. I just…I want you to know I’m not the same person you left. I was selfish then. Self-absorbed. But I had to be.”

    “Why?”

“Because I needed to immerse myself in the business. I needed it to need me. It took away the guilt I felt leaving Bette behind. But now that she’s in my life…I don’t feel the need to let work consume me. I want you to come back home.”

David closed his eyes and looked down. He’d been splitting his time between apartments in New York and San Diego. He had been trying to stay around California to be there for his two sons. They were a few years younger than Bette when he’d walked out of their life to be the leading male in Janice’s.

His posture, the defeated droop in his shoulders and deep hunch in his strong back were key indicators of just how lost he now was. He’d planned this trip for weeks. He’d planned his speech of how they needed to move on, get divorced, go their separate ways and be happy. But David Schwartz had never expected to see his wife looking younger and more radiant than she had in the entire time they’d been together. He’d met her at a dark time in her life and now she was no longer a wilted flower. She had blossomed into a successful business woman and attentive mother and the only other role she needed to complete her ultimate trio of accomplishment was that of loving wife.

    She needed him.

She needed to show him just how much she loved him and wanted him.

In the past, she hadn’t been able to do that. And she’d never been able to admit her failings in their relationship until now.

    1. Thanks for the update! Love this! I’m glad to see Janice trying to get her family back together, i just hope Bette doesn’t have a cow and understands. I hope Tina and Bette can connect soon, and that Tina does tell Bette about Eric. Tina wouldn’t get jealous of Damon being able to see Bette would she??

    2. Wow, I didn’t remember Bette’s Mom talking about a husband. Does Bette know??? I am glad they are both doing well in their jobs, but hope that they can connect soon. And Tina better tell Bette because otherwise a bad misunderstanding may be underway.

    3. Good chapter. Hope B&T will connet soon and Tina should tell Bette about eric and hope he not stalker Tina. No drama for B&T please. Please post more, thanks!

    4. What an amazing update! We sooo missed this story! We see some progress in B’s mom’s life, as well as the friends in LA. Schedules in different locations can be VERY frustrating and stressful. Tina needs to be honest with B. It will strengthen their communication and relationship. As for Valerie’s reaction to B’s improvements in her outlook and knowledge, just proves that she’s pleased with how well B took the advice. Thanks for posting. We enjoy so much tiny B and T as they are experiencing new things on their lives. PPS- Lucero & Marsha (From Mexico City)

    5. Tina really should speak to Bette and let her know about Eric, but with the time difference she will just have to do it via E-mail. Tina should also express her love for Bette so she will feel secure and not get all jelous and snippy. PPS

    6. B&T needs to reconnect real soon. I think Tina should tell Bette about Eric’s possible reappearance. At this early stage of their relationship and being 3000 miles away from each other, honesty is a very important factor. Thank you for updating this story, MTS. Beautiful writing as always:)
