The Slow Burn
Tina, though… Tina was serious about this.
Henry had never hated anyone before. But watching Bette steal what should have been his? It made something ugly coil inside him.
Even worse was how Tina looked at her. How she let Bette touch her so easily, so freely. Henry had spent months waiting for a moment like that, and Bette had taken it in weeks.
Frustration simmers beneath his skin. He’s tried to hide it, to convince himself that this thing with Bette will fizzle out, that Tina will come to her senses. But every glance, every laugh, every lingering touch between them chips away at his patience.
So, he starts planting seeds of doubt. Quiet, subtle whispers among their mutual friends. Offhand remarks to Tina when Bette isn’t around.
Henry (with feigned concern): Are you sure about Bette? I mean… you know her reputation. I just don’t want to see you get hurt.
But Tina only grows more confident in her feelings. She brushes off his words, her faith in Bette unshaken.
Henry’s bitterness deepens.
Another day. Another reminder that Tina is slipping further away.
He spots her at the park, sitting on a bench with Bette. They’re sharing a book, their shoulders brushing, completely oblivious to the world around them. Bette says something, and Tina tilts her head back in laughter, nudging Bette playfully. The sight makes Henry’s stomach twist.
Henry (to himself, bitterly): That should be me. I’ve been there for her. I’ve always loved her.
His hands ball into fists. The jealousy, the frustration, the helplessness it’s all boiling over. He’s done waiting.
If Tina wont see the truth, hell make her see it.
He just needs the perfect moment…. and a way to show her that he’s the one who truly loves her not Bette.
Tina Invites Bette to the Party
Tina is lounging on her couch, her phone pressed to her ear as she waits for Bette to pick up. After a few rings, Bette’s warm, teasing voice comes through.
Bette (smirking): Miss me already?
Tina (grinning): Always.
Bette (soft chuckle): Mm, I love the sound of that. Tell me more. How much do you miss me?
Tina (rolling her eyes, but smiling): Don’t push your luck, Porter.
Bette (low, playful): Oh, but I love pushing my luck with you. So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this call?

One of my favorite lines – “We’d be the dog eared page someone can’t bear to forget. A story that lingers, long after the last word is read. The kind that refuses to fade, because love like this doesn’t belong to time it belongs to forever.” Exactly Bette & Tina.
I’m loving their romantic, sweet interactions. The Slow Burn – I’m here for it. Worried about what Henry will do…
Great story!
Thank you so much
That line is one of my favorites too I really wanted to capture the kind of timeless, unforgettable love Bette and Tina share. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the slow burn and their growing connection. And yes, Henry is definitely the dark cloud looming over their sunshine. Things are about to get even more intense.
Love this story! Can’t wait to read about all the challenges ahead :(
Thank you so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story. The road ahead is filled with twists, turns, and tender moments can’t wait to share what’s coming next
Hello, I love this fic. I almost had a heart attack when I read the first chapter, I thought it was going to be a softer beginning. I love their beginning story though. I have a feeling that Henry is going to get aggressive with Tina in an effort to show her they should be together. If not that he will probably try to set Bette up, so Tina thinks she is cheating. I hope she can see through an attempt like that. If he does get aggressive with Tina, I hope Bette catches him in the act and kicks his butt. I am thoroughly enjoying this, please continue.
Thank you so much I know the first chapter came in like a storm definitely not the soft beginning you might’ve expected But I’m so glad you’re loving Bette and Tina’s origin story.
And wow, you’re very on point with your predictions Let’s just say Henry’s not done causing trouble, but Bette’s not backing down either. There are some intense moments ahead, but also a lot of growth,
Thank you again for reading and sharing your thoughts it truly means the world More coming soon.
