The Slow Burn
For months, Henry had nursed feelings for Tina, long before her breakup with Eric. He had been her quiet anchor the one who listened, who stayed, who waited. Every late night conversation, every reassuring smile, every moment he stood by her side had felt like a step closer to something more. But now, watching her with Bette, that hope unravels, thread by thread, leaving behind an ache he can’t ignore.
Henry (muttering under his breath): She’s falling for her. But she’s blind. Bette’s just playing a game. Tina needs to wake up.
He knows Bette’s type. The kind that sweeps in, turns everything into a grand romance, and disappears just as quickly. Tina, though? She’s not like that. She deserves something real.
And Henry had always been real.
They met in college through mutual friends, and from the very first moment, Henry was captivated. Tina wasn’t just beautiful there was an effortless warmth in the way she laughed, in how she listened as if every word mattered. But admiration soon turned into something deeper, something darker. He didn’t just crave her presence, he depended on it She became an obsession, an ache that refused to fade. The idea of her belonging to anyone else was unbearable she was meant to be his.
At first, he kept his feelings to himself. Tina was dating Eric back then, and Henry, ever the loyal friend, played the part she needed. The good listener. The one she could count on when Eric let her down. He told himself that if he just waited long enough, she’d eventually realize.
Then came the breakup.
Henry had been there, helping her pick up the pieces. Long phone calls. Coffee meetups that stretched into the evening. Walks in the park where she confided in him, telling him things she had never told Eric. Each moment, each shared laugh, only cemented what Henry already knew Tina was meant for him.
He had started to believe she was beginning to see it too.
But then Bette happened.
It had been subtle at first a few casual meetings, shared smiles, nothing Henry worried about. But before he knew it, Tina was different. Lighter. Happier. And the reason wasn’t him. It was her.
Henry tried to tell himself it was just a phase. That Tina, still fragile from her breakup, was confusing gratitude for something deeper. That Bette was only interested because it was new, exciting. After all, Bette had a reputation. She was charming, sure, but she never stuck around.

One of my favorite lines – “We’d be the dog eared page someone can’t bear to forget. A story that lingers, long after the last word is read. The kind that refuses to fade, because love like this doesn’t belong to time it belongs to forever.” Exactly Bette & Tina.
I’m loving their romantic, sweet interactions. The Slow Burn – I’m here for it. Worried about what Henry will do…
Great story!
Thank you so much
That line is one of my favorites too I really wanted to capture the kind of timeless, unforgettable love Bette and Tina share. I’m so happy you’re enjoying the slow burn and their growing connection. And yes, Henry is definitely the dark cloud looming over their sunshine. Things are about to get even more intense.
Love this story! Can’t wait to read about all the challenges ahead :(
Thank you so much I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story. The road ahead is filled with twists, turns, and tender moments can’t wait to share what’s coming next
Hello, I love this fic. I almost had a heart attack when I read the first chapter, I thought it was going to be a softer beginning. I love their beginning story though. I have a feeling that Henry is going to get aggressive with Tina in an effort to show her they should be together. If not that he will probably try to set Bette up, so Tina thinks she is cheating. I hope she can see through an attempt like that. If he does get aggressive with Tina, I hope Bette catches him in the act and kicks his butt. I am thoroughly enjoying this, please continue.
Thank you so much I know the first chapter came in like a storm definitely not the soft beginning you might’ve expected But I’m so glad you’re loving Bette and Tina’s origin story.
And wow, you’re very on point with your predictions Let’s just say Henry’s not done causing trouble, but Bette’s not backing down either. There are some intense moments ahead, but also a lot of growth,
Thank you again for reading and sharing your thoughts it truly means the world More coming soon.
