The Thawing of the Ice – Chapter One
More enchanting.
But at that moment, she was none of those things. Bette Porter was a weeping mother with sorrowful eyes and a bleeding heart. Henry’s eyes softened and he swallowed thickly, his Adam’s apple moving as he did so. He moved to the side to let Bette pass him and she whispered, "Thank you".
Henry nodded before Bette moved away swiftly, her boot-clad feet carrying her towards the direction she’d seen Tina travel.
When she reached the doorway of a small room, decorated in gender-neutral tan with colorful pictures of African wildlife adorning the walls, Bette froze, watching Tina protectively scanning Angelica’s now nearly-naked form for any sign of abuse.
The dark-haired woman rolled her eyes, her pride wounded by Tina’s inability to trust her.
"She can’t know me. How is it she loved me, but now, she doesn’t even know me. I would never hurt my baby. Never in a million years would I hurt Angie," Bette thought.
This wasn’t them. This couldn’t be them. How could this possibly be Bette, Tina, and Angelica? It was as though the Mistress of the Universe had toyed with them. Moved them around as She played with reality. Made enemies of lovers and strangers between mother and child.
This wasn’t supposed to be their life.
They were supposed to be happy. They were supposed to live together.
As she stood there, her presence still unknown, Bette’s dark eyes scanned room, making sure this home away from her was suitable to meeting her daughter’s needs. Tina’s back was to her and she was still examining Angelica; Bette’s tiny clone now lying on her back on the twin bed.
Bette’s eyes traveled from the bed to the walls and she realized they matched; bearing the same African safari print. There was a little table beside the bed and a crib against the wall. The space was nice and warm, the furniture well-made, but it didn’t feel like Angelica. And the more Bette observed, her eyes landing on masculine action figures and cars, she realized that this room must belong to Henry’s son.
Leaning against the door jamb, Bette finally spoke. "Is she going to get her own room?"

MTS is Back! And with a wonderful story! I liked how this story ended on a note of hope (and had Tina and Henry behaving with decency and kindness, even though they were justifiably angry), despite being set in the grimness that was Season 3. I have waited so,so very long for a continuation of The Roommates. Please do give us some of that tale as well.
Wonderful writing. I can feel Bette’s pain and her return to sanity. Sad but hopeful.
Welcome back!!! I am always ready for a new adventure with her new story. This serie was very very difficult for me to watch. And to be honest, I did not watch it all. To sad and unfair on Bette. After all she is Angie’s mother as well as Tina.GOD will keep Angie safe Bette and he will bring you her back eventually.
Excellent story. I look forward to more. I’m not familiar with your other story or stories, but I would like to read Roommates too please.
So happy to see you back and with a new story to boot! I’m partial to “Roommates”, but I like this one as well. Thanks for posting!
WELCOME BACK!!!! What a nice surprise to see your name again! And what a heart wrenching beginning. You wrote this first chapter perfectly….and I do mean perfectly! Thank you for coming back!
OMG, OMG, OMG….I love that you’re back. I wish more of your originators would write again. Those 4 pages just slammed me right back to that moment, it’s been so long since the series has been on and I don’t watch the DVD’s yet. I’m so excited to know your writing again, thanks!!!!
It’s wonderful to have you back and with a very turthful and painful chapter in their lives. We know Tina can be vindictive when she wants but hopefully you will turn her around little by little. So glad Bette put that bottle down. Can hardly wait for the next chapter. Thanks for sharing with us.
