The Triangle of Love – Chapter 12
Alice: Thank you.
Dana: Your welcome, but why did you want me to do that?
Alice: You remember when you said you felt a lot when I kissed your cheek?
Dana: Yeah.
Alice: I wanted to feel the same. And I sure as hell felt it.
Dana: It was true, all of it.
Alice: I know. Dana?
Dana: Yeah?
Alice: I love you.
Dana couldn’t stop the grin appearing on her face. She made sure her eyes were locked with Alice’s as she said the words back.
Dana: I love you too.
They kept the eye contact until the door opened, and Shane walked in. little did they know Shane had heard them say ‘I love you’ to each other. It was in that moment that she realised she wanted what her best friends had. This was different from Bette and Tina. Yes, they were a great couple, but Alice and Dana? Everyone knew it would happen, yet they themselves were so oblivious to it. They were made for each other. The spent the rest of the time eating their fruit that Shane got them before falling to sleep after Shane had left. The Doctors had agreed for Dana to stay with Alice, as this seemed to calm Alice down.
The next day was spent with the family. Helena’s worries had gone when she saw Alice was still her usual witty, sarcastic self. Bette and Tina told the family about all their experiences in Paris and showed them photos they managed to take. They ordered food and ate together, before gossiping some more. Dana, Alice and Shane had all agreed beforehand not to tell the others about Alice and Danas situation, but throughout the whole thing, Dana would not let go of Alice’s hand. She just needed that little connection to ensure her Alice was still there. It was 7pm before the last visitor left, the last visitor once again being Shane. Dana were once again holding hands and giving each other the intimate eye contact they both now saw as a comfort for them.
Alice: Dane, I was thinking.
Dana: Did it hurt?
Alice: Fuck off.
Dana: Okay.
Dana got up to leave, knowing that Alice was just kidding, but playing along anyway. She got to the door, suddenly regretting playing along as Alice hadn’t called her back yet. She stood at the door and paused, before turning around to look at Alice, who had a cheesy grin on her face. Dana knew she was kidding, and didn’t want her to leave. She returned the smile and Alice finally called her back.
