Alice: That’s something we wanted to talk to you about. When can we start the routine?

Dr. Edwards: Honestly, whenever you feel up to it. I normally recommend a couple of days after the removal of the pots, but in reality, you can start it whenever you want. I wouldn’t recommend today though.

Dana: We were thinking tomorrow?

Dr. Edwards: Just take it steady. You need to start out with the smaller movements, such as wiggling your toes, rotating the foot and bending the knee, before you try to put any kind of weight on it. You’ll still need the chair for a few weeks, but then you should be out of it if everything goes well.

Alice: Thank you, Doctor.

Dr. Edwards: I’m just doing my job. You two can go home now. Get some rest; the routine will take up most of your energy. And Dana, take care of her, she’ll need you now more than ever.

Dana: Don’t worry, Doc, I plan on staying by her side for the rest of my life.

They all smiled at Danas comment. They went over a few final things with Dr. Edwards, before they made an appointment for a few months from now for a check-up. They thanked the Doctor for everything he did, before leaving to go home. They held hands the whole way home, stealing glances at each other. When they arrived at home, Dana carried Alice inside, leaving the chair in the car. She just wanted to hold Alice in her arms and never let go. Alice was still worried about the appearance of her legs, but they weren’t as bad as she was expecting, even though it came as a shock to her. They decided to order pizza since it was 3pm, and they were both hungry. They ordered quite a large pizza, so they didn’t have to eat again later in the day. They sat down with heir food, and Dana was scanning the TV channels to find something to watch. After a few minutes, she found a film they could watch together. She looked over at Alice who had already started eating. She chuckled as she watched Alice tackle the stringy cheese on her pizza, before turning the film on.
