The Triangle of Love – Chapter 21

Alice: The main reason I was living with you was because I needed help. I can do things on my own now, and it’s easier for me to get up and down the stairs, without almost killing myself.

Dana: So all you wanted was my help? Couldn’t you have got Shane to do that?

Dana knew she was being harsh and she knew Alice could sense the bitterness in her voice. She didn’t mean it the way it sounded, but she didn’t want to believe that Alice would use her, just for help. Alice had tears in her eyes, and Dana knew she had crossed a line.

Alice: Are you seriously asking me that? The one person I wanted to help me was you, not Shane, or anyone else for that matter. I… we’re…

    Dana: We’re what, Alice?

    Alice: Taking things slow.

Dana: How slow? Because all I want is to take you in my arms and spend the rest of my life with you. If you want to move out, fine, I understand, but how slow do you want to take things, because at this rate, we’ll be 60 and still yet to share a passionate kiss.

Dana got up to leave, before realising she couldn’t go anywhere. How could she? Alice needed her. Yes, Alice could move the wheelchair by herself, but that only increased the risk of Alice injuring herself further. She took Alice’s hand and tried to look into Alice’s eyes, but she kept avoiding her gaze.

    Dana: Al, look at me.

Alice lifted her head and met Dana’s eyes with her own. They stared longingly at one another, before Alice spoke.

    Alice: Dane, I’m scared.

    Dana: Why?

    Alice: I’m scared that… I’m scared…

Dana: Al, what are you afraid of?

    Alice: I’m afraid that… you’ll leave me.

Dana had told Alice many times before that she wasn’t going anywhere, but people like Gabby who have left Alice after saying they wouldn’t, have only caused more insecurity in the blonde. Dana grazed Alice knuckles with her thumb, causing the release of a sigh from Alice.

Dana: Baby, I told you, I’m going nowhere.  I love you. And I always will.

Alice: But what if you get bored, or no longer love me?
