The Trouble With Love Chapter Thirty Six

“Sleep off the jet lag and then go to New York. Tina may be able to move her jobs around but I’m just a humble assistant. I have to go where the work is.” said Kate, with a shrug of her shoulders.

“That’s too bad, I know Tina was looking forward to working with you again.”

“In a lot of ways this has been the perfect job, we came in on time and on budget, and lets face it I had extra curricular concerns to keep me occupied.”

“That’s one way of putting it.”

“And there you were thinking that I didn’t have a diplomatic bone in my body.” laughed Kate.

    “I never said that.”

“No, but you were thinking it.”

“I should get back to my seat. I want to be there when Tina wakes up.”

“OK, and Bette, treat her right this time.”

    “I will.”

Bette and Tina spent the rest of the flight either sleeping or talking quietly about what their friends may have been doing over the last three weeks that they hadn’t been there, and about what they were going to do with the time that Tina had taken off. They also spoke a little about whether was going to stay at the CAC but decided to leave any firm decisions for the future.

Landing, passport control and baggage claim all passed without incident. Kate had organised transport for her to get back to her apartment and for Bette and Tina to go back to their house while they were still in London. What seemed like very quickly they were standing outside LAX trying to say their goodbyes.

“So that was a learning experience.” said Kate, trying to keep the conversation upbeat.

“I think probably for us more than you.” replied Tina, smiling.

“OK, because I can’t resist, I have to give you one more piece of advice as my parting shot. It’s not how well you say it that counts, it’s how well you listen.”

Tina and Bette both looked at Kate, neither of them knowing how to respond to that, but both realising that it was going to give them something to think about for the foreseeable future.

“I made you both speechless which must be an indication that my work here is done.” laughed Kate.

Thank you so much for realistically bringing them back together in this gentle and loving manner. Kate has been a real star and confindante to both parties.
