#TLW10 A Beautiful Gift
“That’s not what I want. I don’t want 50/50 joint custody.”
“Oh … don’t tell me you’re trying to get out of child support, because even if Tina has to raise this baby alone you still have a financial obligation.”
“I want sole custody.”
“How do you figure that?”
“Tina may have given birth to her, but really Angelica is the mirror of me. I know what she is going to experience as a biracial girl growing up in a divisive world. I mean let’s face it, when Tina goes out in public with Angelica they automatically assume she’s adopted. When they see me with Angelica, they see a mother and a daughter. I’m the one that’s going to be able to give her a sense of belonging. “
“Wow .. OK .. How do you think Tina will react to this?”
“Look you know what … all I know is that when I saw Angelica about to go out the door today with Tina and Henry and little fair haired Mikey I just … I just wanted to fucking scream … you know… because I do not want my daughter growing up in a house where she feels like an outsider because everyone else is white, and when she looks around she doesn’t see another familiar face that looks like her own. You know she’s going to get that enough as it is in the world at large and I know what that feels like. Angelica belongs with me.”
***
Bette and Joyce set about formulating a game plan to file a petition for sole custody of one year old Angelica Kennard-Porter. It would take several days for the legal papers to be drawn up and sent to Tina’s lawyer who would then present them to his client. In the meantime Joyce warned Bette not to make any waves. When they concluded their meeting Bette mentioned to Joyce that she and Tina were both attending mutual friend’s wedding in Vancouver. They were flying out on the day that Bette was scheduled to have Angie but Tina insisted that they go together.
“She’s been with Tina at Henry’s for the last two nights. I don’t know why I should have to share my time.”
“Because it would look bad in court if Tina decides to tell the judge that you refused to fly on the same plane with her.”

This was really a wonderful read! I couldn’t stop and kept nodding my head as Bette narrated the story, totally agreeing with her on so many points. Thank you for going so deep…wow…really great story!

This story is begging for more chapters. I like how you dissect and construct Bette’s reasons for the kidnapping. The reasons are very developed and reasonable. Nicely done!

Interesante historia,

BAT, very interesting plots twists and perspectives. I’m getting to this kidnap point in what I’m working on, too. God, I think I have a bit of freedom – maybe 28 hours to run Bette off road somewhere- interesting ideas you have put into your stories, my friend. I know these take hours and hours to write – thanks for your time and sharing them with us. BLACKBIRD

Hey Bat, I love your stories as they always contain such quality to the way you place your words down so eloquently. The stories lately have been so good and I love spending time diving into them. I agree as this story could do with a few more chapters.
