    Bette and Tina have only 24 hours together.

    Tomorrow

    She walked out of her rented beach house onto the deck. She looked out at the calm ocean for one of the last times. Her lease would be up at the end of the week and she would miss coming here after work and on the weekends. She wouldn’t miss living a lie but when she thought about it, she wouldn’t have traded one second of it.

    Tina was a few minutes late and Bette wondered if she would be coming at all. It would be their last day together; ever. Tomorrow things would be different and although she had tried, she was unable to change Tina’s mind. Tomorrow, Tina would marry Eric and Bette would lose her forever.

    She hadn’t slept in a few nights thinking about the wedding. It had been eighteen months since they met and both their lives had been turned upside down. They had spent every moment they could together since that fateful night at The Planet. Tina never thought that a harmless night out with her friend Dana would change her life forever but it did.

    They had been inseparable since that night, and had done everything two people could do together, except one thing. It wasn’t that they both didn’t want to but Bette wouldn’t allow it until Tina had broken off her engagement. That never happened and the wedding had loomed over them for months. Most days they would ignore it but that became impossible in the last few weeks leading up to tomorrow.

    She saw her from a distance. The sight of her never failed to take Bette’s breath away. Tina held her sandals in her hands and looked toward Bette. She could tell she was smiling as her hair whipped around her beautiful tanned face. She did her familiar job toward her. The brunette took a deep breath and walked down to meet her. They stood looking at one another before embracing. It was a warm embrace but the desperation they both felt to stop the clock was evident in how they held on.

    They separated finally. “You’re late, Kennard.”

    “I’m sorry, but I can make up for it. I’m yours for the night.”

    “What?”

    “No one is expecting me home tonight. I told everyone that Dana was taking me out for my…last night of freedom.” She noticed Bette cringe at her words and then look at her overnight bag.

    8. Awww damn, you had me cryig like a baby, my heart was as broken as Bette’s was and then you fixed it. I wondered how on earth Tina could leave after Bette made love to her. Dang, I’m glad she went back. And she was right, she was married once that day and she made the right decision. Thanks for such a beautiful story, so sad and yet that’s how life is.     20. Ok, truth: I read the 1st page and started the 2nd, but then immediately went to the last page, because there was no way my heart could take their last night together if Tina married Eric! And no, reading the end didn’t spoil the story because what was in between was lovely, and hot, and sweet! Thanks for sharing!

    26. Wow, what an amazingly beautiful story. “she had the cutest freckles all over like stars waiting to be named.” My favorite line from the story. This was beautifully written. While I was reading, I was hoping that Tina would show up on Bette’s doorstep in her wedding dress. Simply beautiful :)
