    Two Meetings

She had been flirting with me and I…flirted back, Tina admitted. Digging deeper, Tina rolled her eyes acknowledging she enjoyed the attention. Flashes of Candace flirting with Bette invaded every corner of her thoughts. Making Tina feel even worse. She knew Bette hadn’t noticed Candace blatantly flirting with her. She was wrapped up in ensuring Provocations was the best show the Bette Porter Gallery had ever presented. Bette never cared about or even noticed Candace for that matter. Not in that way. The only thing Bette wanted from Candace was her superior carpentry skills. Tina was certain of that now because she had put herself in the exact same situation with Sam. The big difference being Tina flirted back. Oh God. I am a horrible horrible person.

Liz worked up the courage to talk to Tina, approaching gingerly.

    “Excuse me, Tina,” Liz interrupted.

Sam offered to grab Tina a cup of coffee. Stopping her hand at Tina’s wrist. She circled it with her index finger and thumb and squeezed before she departed. Tina appreciated the kindness but it also made her uncomfortable. She was fucked.

    “What is it, Liz?”

    “Are you okay?”

“I’d be better if everyone was on top of their game today.”

    “Tina…”

Tina rubbed her temples and ran her fingers through her hair.

“I’m sorry, Liz. I had a crazy emotional weekend,” Tina admitted. “What I really need is to take a day but I can’t because this movie has to wrap in two months. Three at the most. We’ve worked so hard to turn this ship around and get ahead of schedule but there’s still so much that needs to be done. We can’t afford any setbacks. Starting late is unacceptable.”

Tina groaned loudly. Frustrated. Blowing air out of her lungs. Commanding her tears not to fall. Staring at the redhead.

One of things that made Liz a great assistant was her ability to think in solutions. Liz checked her notes and schedule.

“Tina, you don’t have to be on on set right now. The crew can handle the stuff on the agenda for this morning. They’ve got this. They’ve got you. The director and the cast have been getting along great because of you. Go to your trailer and do whatever it is you need to do to settle down. The next major thing you have to be present for is the meeting with the new set designer and that’s not until 2pm.”
