    ‘But?’

‘I don’t know…’ The talk about that job led to talking about staying another year in Paris which somehow led to me saying how Paris seems to bring out the best in both of us which very soon inspired Bette to lift me on the dinning table. As soon as I grabbed the collar of her shirt she pushed me down and placed my legs on her shoulders. The moment I felt her mouth on me and the feathery strokes of her tongue once again fired up my undying desire for her, I forgot all about the pro’s and con’s of this job. ‘I don’t know what the fuck we’re doing. Well, besides that actually. Which is nice of course.’

‘Of course. So no more flannel PJ’s for you hm?’ She bumps her shoulder against mine and I give her an evil eye. ‘Wait… just nice?’

‘Amazing really.’ Sighing blissfully I close my eyes still barely able to wrap my mind around all the recent changes. ‘But I wonder if it will ever be as before.. like I wonder the same about everything else.’

‘Not many people get a chance to do it all over again. Why don’t you try to relax and see what happens, instead of your endless analysis. That must be so tiring. This job will do you well, Bette will be relieved when you will have less time to think.’ She says and throws the cup into the bin.

‘Ha-ha.’ Feasting my eyes on impressive mountains of cheese, meat from artisan butchers, fresh fruit, vegetables, I catch buckets of newly bloomed flowers and pull her with me. Lilies, white lilies are Bette’s favorite flowers. Picking up a bouquet from one of the buckets I try to ignore Helena’s teasingly raised brow.

    ‘Flowers, how romantic.’

‘Shut up.’ After paying for the flowers we leave the market and cross the street where Helena heads straight toward the Versace store. ‘Why don’t you try to relax and give that mediator a chance? Winny appreciates it right?’

‘If yelling at me counts as a thank you, then I guess she does.’ Shrugging her shoulders she studies the window with a hungry look in her eyes. ‘What do you think about this?’

Chuckling I follow the direction she points at. On the mannequin there’s a dress which doesn’t deserve the name, besides all the golden details there’s an overall lack of fabric. ‘For which occasion? A meeting with your pimp?’

    1. Another great chapter. Enjoyed Bette & Tina’s interaction with Helena and Winny – very entertaining, at the same time it revealed so much, as Helena said about the night being therapeutical. Very well-written.

      My favorite line –
“When I asked her to marry me I knew I would only ask that question once and only to her.”

    2. Bette and Tina need to have some long discussions…. they need to have discussions about their expectations of the other. What role will their careers take in their personal lives? Do they really want children and if so when? Where would they like to live and why? What are their hopes and dreams? What is it that they most fear? How can they remind each other how important they are to one another – beside lots of sex.

They need to have one discussion about the past and then put it away…. take ownership for their own mistakes and choices. Become aware of the signs that things are not right and need to be adjusted. Put their lives on a reasonable schedule – no more of this move to a new city, getting a new job and trying to have a baby all in the same year. They need to schedule some family time and some couple time. And they need to learn to communicate… almost to the point that they empty their minds to each other and hold nothing back. They need to share the duties of house and family together… neither of them totally responsible for say the cooking and the laundry. Joint project builds connection…. and they need connection.

In this chapter, Bette describes what marriage means to her – a life time commitment to one person. That says to me that Bette will never instigate a divorce… if there is to be a divorce, Tina will have to start the process. And even if divorced Bette will never marry again. Those are truly remarkable sentiments for a person in this day and time. Of course if divorced, Bette might see other women. She just won’t purpose to another woman. That is how she feels at this time. I believe she is sincere and I also think that Tina is hearing this for the first time. She probably had no idea how Bette felt about marriage. I find Bette’s sentiment admirable….

      Thanks for the chapter…
