    Wanna Date? Chapter 18

Bette appeared in the doorway a few minutes later, large bowl of popcorn in one hand, and an even larger bottle of water in the other. They grinned stupidly at each other for a few moment, both enjoying the familiarity of relaxing together.

Bette shed her jacket and unzipped her boots, determined to get comfortable and let Tina see how nice the evening could be just hanging out. She flung her discarded clothing into a corner, ignoring Tina’s tutting as she browsed the shelf where Tina had a small stack of DVDs lined up. Not a great deal of choice.

“You should have called me T, I could have picked something up for us to watch,” she said without turning around.

“Nothing catch your eye Bette?” She asked.

Bette turned and gave Tina one of her best seductive smiles, letting her know exactly what had caught her eye lately. Tina felt a flush rising to her cheeks. Amazing, Bette could still make her blush.

“I think I have Some Like It Hot there don’t I?” She felt in the mood for something light and fun, and Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in drag was always sure to lift her spirits.

“Ooh, good choice baby,” Bette called, as she retrieved the disc and loaded it up.

She sank down onto the sofa, leaving a few feet of cushion between her and Tina, not wanting to crowd her. There would be time for that later, hopefully.

The film was a mutual favourite, and Bette found herself quickly immersed in the story, although she was constantly aware of the position of Tina’s hands as they reached for her water and fiddled and twitched, betraying her agitation. She was also noting the number of times Tina looked over at her. Halfway through the film, as Tony Curtis was impersonating Cary Grant, the score stood at 22. Some of those were quick glances, some longer more considerate looks, but Bette didn’t care how long the glances lasted.

As the film went on, and Joe E Brown pursued Jack Lemmon as Daphne, Bette was finding it harder and harder to hold her tongue. She had promised not to pressure Tina, but Kit’s words rang in her ears. She needed to let Tina know how she felt, what she wanted. Whether Tina then chose to reject her or not was another matter.

    1. Loved this chapter. Both of them want to say so much, but cannot come up with just the right words. Bette is going to further surprise Tina, because I think she’s going to tell Tina exactly how she feels — she’s willing to finally show Tina all of her vulnerabilities to regain her true love. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks.

    2. I totally agree with Lsbn’s comment ! Bette is sooo cute this way…

This evening around Some Like it Hot (what a delight, this movie, by the way !) was such a sweet shared moment…

    4. Bette is so cute when she’s unsure and shy. Tina is pretty cute too with her inner dialogue about what she wants. It will be sad to see this story end, it’s been a great read. You have filled in the blanks wonderfully.
