Cabin weekend – the talk
“I’m fine. Are you about ready to go?”
“I just need to get my things from the bedroom. Come on in for a minute. Do you want coffee or something?”
“No thank you. I have a thermos in car.” Bette answered politely.
“OK I’ll be right out.” Tina smiled as she headed to the bedroom to get her bags. She was back a short time later to find Bette still standing in the living room.
“Ready?”
“Yeah. Let’s go.”
***
Bette took Tina’s bag to the car while Tina locked up the house and set the alarms as neither she nor Valerie would be there. Bette waited holding the passenger door open for Tina; once she’s safely inside and buckled in Bette closed the door and made her way to the driver’s side. She reached for the knob on the radio and looked at Tina as if to ask permission but the blonde was fiddling with something in her purse. The soft music filled the void as neither said anything for the first few minutes of the drive as Bette made her way out of the neighborhood unto the freeway.
The disquieting silence proved that some damage had already been done as they’d never felt this kind of awkwardness or discomfort in each other’s presence before. It was almost as if they were walking on egg shells. They couldn’t keep that up for the two hour drive so they talked off and on carefully maneuvering around subjects that approached anything too personal.
When they got to the Town of Big Bear Lake they stopped at the local butcher, seafood market, grocery store and farmer’s market. The tension was finally broken when Tina delighted in helping Bette to pick out the best of the fresh fruits and vegetables encouraging her to try new things. Although Bette’s culinary skills were limited she did know enough to pick choice cuts of meat and seafood so she wasn’t totally useless as they planned their meals and gathered provisions for the weekend. It was almost one o’clock when they got to the cabin. They unloaded bags and groceries from the car and after putting the food away Bette gave Tina a tour of her home away from home.

BAT I think you saved your best writing for this chapter! Of course your writing is already superb!
Loved that Tina seemed to ease Bette’s insecurities and she called Bette out on inviting Sam when Bette was worried about Tina going further with Helena. Time for both to move forward trusting each other. Can’t wait for the date Tina has planned ; )
Loved it BAT!! Excellent!!

“…If they didn’t stop soon they would be making love on the grass in front of the beautiful lake.” What’s so wrong with that !

To start your Author’s Notes with ‘Sorry to disappoint’ could not be more wrong! You do not ever ‘disappoint’!
This was a superb chapter, Thank you for not having any annoyed walking off scene.
The conversation by the Lake was great especially how you interwove some of the Show’s script but with the characters dialogue exchanged. Thanks also for the lovely explanation of ‘I know what I am and what to do with it’!
Loved it BAT and cannot wait for Weekend at the Cabin part 2!
As mscully says ’10 stars’!
