What if PT 2 – Chapter four

Dr. Wilson smiled. “Well ladies you are indeed pregnant.” Tina gasped while Bette’s eyes began to water. Their dreams were finally coming true. “And the sex would you like to know the sex of your baby?”

“Yes!” The two women said at once w/o hesitation.

    “It’s a girl. You’re having a baby girl.”

Bette kissed Tina whose eyes were moist with tears as much as hers were. They held hands and said their ‘I love yous.’ They couldn’t believe that it only took them twice this time. This was finally happening and no one could take this away from them.

Dr. Wilson proceeded to tell Tina that she could get dressed and drew the curtain, dividing the room, which Tina had found odd. She knew they were a confident gay couple; she had never bothered to draw that curtain on past visits.

“Bette may I speak to you in private?” She whispered as quietly as she could. It wasn’t up to her but to Bette, the patient if she wanted to share the results she had found. “Bette, I insist.”
Bette crossed her arms over her chest defensively. This was a new Bette. She did not like Dr. Wilson’ whispering, it implied that she had something to hide from Tina. As if Tina and she were not in an open and honest relationship.

She began in her normal, bold loud voice. “If there’s something you need to say to me, you can say it in front of her.” Bette pulled back the curtain just as Tina was zipping up her dark jeans. Tina looked up to Bette then at Dr. Wilson wondering what she had missed.

“Are you sure Bette?” Dr. Wilson asked wondering what had happened to the old Bette.

“I am most definitely sure.” Bette took Tina’s hand and squeezed it, assuring Tina that there were to be no secrets between them anymore.

Dr. Wilson had her hands folded on top of the table. “Bette I’ve got good and bad news for you. Which do you prefer first?”

Bette squirmed nervously in her seat. This was why she despised going to the doctors, hearing the bad news. Tina squeezed her hand and spoke for her. “We’ll take the bad news first.”
