    When Hope Is Lost

The show turned out to be quite successful for the gallery and the four artists. Bette felt a renewed sense of vigor and she became a whirlwind of motivation and of doing business. They sold many pieces and brought in more patrons and money than they expected. After the gallery was empty, as the public had departed, Bette found her son in her office painting. Allyn, Maxine and whoever else went into Allyn’s office.

Ozzie had taken off his tux and put on his painting clothes and was busy at his easel.  She came in and watched him create as she sat in her chair and relaxed, thinking back to her day. She sipped on a cup of tea.

She was gazing off into the distance, when she heard a voice bring her back. “Mom? Mom, you hear me?”

    “Yes, Sweetie… What is it?”

    “You happy?”

“Yes, I am… I’m also quite surprised and still in a bit of shock with all that happened today but I’m happy. You have two grammas, two new aunties, and an uncle. How does that feel?”

“Well, it feel good. Auntie Kit and I sing together today. It fun and she sing nice.”

“Yes, she does and it was quite the surprise for me that she found me and came to the show. My other family always supported me with my other shows in LA and I was feeling a little blue because none of them would be here this time… I’m so grateful that she came to see it, along with my mom. It’s been so long since I’ve seen her. My dad wasn’t a very nice person and kept her from me. That happened when I was four or five and now I’m thirty. So that’s a long time not to see her. But, it feels just like yesterday that we were together… consequently, I’m not letting her go again.”

She looked at her son who was beaming at her. “I not let you go ever.” He said to her and she beamed back at him and then stood up and went over to sit next to him.

    1. I’m a little confused I thought Bette would be excited about the baby and trying to get to Tina but she is like denying the child its like she has moved on…..I’m still loving the story though you have my support still

    2. Great chapter. Hopefully Bette will feel towards Tina when she hears from her about what was bothering her all those years that caused all that passive-aggressive behaviour. Bette still loves her but at the moment she is just simply overwhelmed. I think when she reads Tinas email she will better understand and appreciate

    3. Well, Bette had no part in Ozzie’s creation either, and she wanted to adopt him within a day of meeting him. Maybe she’d have to meet the baby to have a connection, but then again, that would mean she had to deal with Tina. If that isn’t something she wants or is prepared to do, she should probably be upfront about it. Staying in NY and asking Kit to keep her location quiet is a fairly clear message that she’s moved on. Thanks
