    Who’s Pointing Fingers Chapter 13

    Chapter 13

Bette looks squarely into the eyes of the aging woman. “Companion?”

“Yes dear, Agnes and I spent nearly 40 years loving each other. I know this comes as a shock to you but …..”

“Aunt Agnes was gay?” Kit cuts in.

“Well dear, yes, I guess that is what you would call it if you were to label it.” The response was very southern and sweet.

“I had no idea.” Bette was having trouble getting her head around this.

Miranda continues, “We met while we were both in college studying art. As I am sure you can understand, this sort of behavior was hidden in secrecy and never discussed so we decided that we would not speak of this dalliance again and after college we went our separate ways. We wrote letters sharing our lives as we both married and moved on in what we thought was an acceptable lifestyle. However, we never forgot our time together and our longing for each other was not to be ignored. In 1967 we met in Spain and began a truly,  most magnificent love affair.” She speaks eloquently and her mind searches for the memories as she speaks. You can tell by the cadence of her voice, and as she relates the story, she is full of love.

“Did my father know?” Bette was intrigued.

“No, Melvin did not know me as anything but a college friend of Agnes’s.”

“Well, this explains a few things.” Bette is looking at Miranda with questioning eyes. Her arms crossed over her chest with a faint smile.

“Your aunt was very proud of you both. Kit, she knew about your career. She was enthralled with your musical talent. Unbeknownst to you, she, I guess I should say we, saw you perform a couple of times.”

“Wow, you are kidding me right? Why didn’t she let me know she was there?” Kit looks at Bette with a look of satisfaction. Someone in her family actually acknowledged her career.

“Bette, Agnes was in awe of your eye for great art. She read every article she could find about your art world  triumphs. She even got a computer and Googled you. That entire computer thing at our age, but, she quietly cheered you both on.”

    1. Marinda was such a beautiful lady. Love that Bette is such a baby. Tina will take care of Bette and will keep Alice in line the Kennard way, thanks for posting

    2. ok now I know who’s pointing fingers, its Bette….LOL… ok that was a bad Alice joke and I apologize…”wink” anyway not suprise by Aunt Agnes “companion” …cant wait to see what happens next…PPS

    3. Loved it. I have a picture of Miranda in my head and I have always loved the name Miranda. Yes, Tina will get all soft and gooey and take very good care of Bette.I want to know more about Miranda and Agnes’ lives together. We don’t know if they lived together at any time. I hope they had that opportunity. Robert was quite a man to understand that they loved each other and needed to be allowed to express that love without recriminations, guilt and hatred towards them. Mr. LaCroix told Bette that Miranda would ot live long enough to spend her own money let alone Agnes’. Did that mean because of her age or is she ill as well as aged? I hope he only means age. Really would lke to know more about those two ladies with that all consuming love. Get Bette back home to Tina. Wonderful chapter. PPS

    4. Sorry to hear about your grandpa, but sometimes you have to let the professionals take over even if you don’t want to (: at least you gave it your best try. I am glad everything went well for Bette and Kit and maybe they will keep in touch with Miranda. Now Bette needs to work on Tina and getting them back together. PPS

    5. I am sorry to hear about your father’s illness. I know that it was hard for you to do what you have done. As far as the story, Miranda is a wonderful woman along with Agnes. This may be what is needed to get Bette and Tina over the edge and into a better situation together.
