Written in the Stars Chapter Seven

Dismounting the horse in a smooth sweeping motion, she slowly made her way through the village. She avoided the streets like the plague, not wanting to be accidentally seen by anyone. The village was dark, the only light were those provided to illuminate the streets. Making sure to stay behind the houses and out of sight, she made her way over to the jailhouse.

She hoped that tonight would be one of those nights where no one would be guarding and this rescue mission will be more successful than the last.

The sound of soft footsteps stopped her in her track; she pressed herself up against the wall. Then there was talking. Bette’s melodious voice was recognizable anywhere. Why was she talking to anyone? Shane wondered. Bette was quiet and reserved; her facial expression never gave away her inner turmoil.

Then there was a man’s voice. When she peeped around the corner there was no one in sight. She walked over and saw Bette she was struggling with bars as if trying to rip them out of the ground.

    “Bette” She whispered.

“Shane” Bette said relieved flooding her voice. “Get me out of here”

In an instant the skinny brunette was on her knees. She unsheathed her sword and began to hit at the bars. Bette had somewhat already loosened the bars on the window from her previous struggling on the bars. Bette was incredibly strong. In a few seconds one of bar became loose. Bette started to yank faster and harder. Her anxiety and need to save Tina was getting stronger. Putting all of her energy into getting out of this goddamn cell was what she needed. When there was enough space for her to pass through she was out in a flash.

“Where is my sword” she asked Shane.

“Here” Shane removed the sword still in its leather sheath that was strapped to her back.

Bette smiled. She took the sword from Shane’s hands. “Follow me” she started off in the direction Henry had taken Tina.

The area was dark but Bette’s eyes had been trained for situations like this. She became accustomed to the darkness. After a few long strides of running, two figures appeared in the distance.

Henry was standing over Tina who was lying in a huddle on the ground. Steam came out of Bette’s ear as moved with agility pulling her blade from its sheath in a flash of steel. The woman lunged forward and swung the blade, bringing it to rest on his shoulder, against his neck.
